  I have been using Uranium since three years and I'm still glad I've found such a good software. It is very simple to install and set up, it is well designed, worked flawlessly and it is even free. It is a complete utility, not only a backup software, because there are a lot of options, like zip compression, running of external programs or scripts, e-mail notifications and works with any NAS or external drive. For me the best one.

  Pros

  With Pro-Tape-Shadow-Version for $207.00 U.S. 1. Very Easy to Configure. 2. Backup to anywhere - ftp site, tape, network shares, usb drive 3. ZIP Encryption available 4. Supports Shadow Copy for open files and Exchange Server. Great Tech Support.

  Cons

  Does not have the ability to flush Exchange Log File - but will backup Exchange database

  Summary

  I have used most of the major commercial backup programs such as Backup Exec. They are more complex to setup and monitor. For my Home-Office Server-2008/Exchange Server, Uranium was the perfect solution. I can send all my critical informaiton to a remote ftp site dailly for off-site storage in a high encryption .zip file. As a full time technical writer, I also save backups of my Work-In-Progress every 15 minutes all day long with Shadow Copy so I can recover from accidental deletion incidents. A GREAT BACKUP PROGRAM

  Pros

  Slick, updated interface. Seems very small and very fast...

  Cons

  Unusable for tape backups in the FREE version and doesn't have good tape drive support in the pro. Wouldn't recognize a common HP Tape Drive

  Summary

  Very disappointed. One of my clients was having a problem with their 10-year old tape backup software, so I figured it would be a good opportunity to turn them onto a more updated product. Unfortunately, the "FREE" version does not back up to TAPE as advertised and even the "Pro (Trial)" wouldn't recognize a common HP SureStore tape drive. Pity.

  No backup to dvd. No disaster recovery. Must pay for these features.

  Might be worth $$$ but Paragon is really free, does all that, and is not crippled.

  Pros

  Time spent troubleshooting Windows 7 backup error 0xC0003005: 4 days Time to download, install, and configure Uranium: < 3 minutes. Time to back up 3.02 gigs across ethernet LAN to NAS: 41 minutes.

  Cons

  None; but be aware that this is a slim, efficient piece of software. Don't expect extensive help menus and the like.

  Summary

  A perfect example of well written code; it does what it promises and doesn't fill up your PC with useless overhead like most of the modern bloat-ware.

  Pros

  Probably the best free backup tool there is, provided you know what you're doing.

  Cons

  Far from intuitive for novices IMO, which put me off using it. Every time I backed up [manually, about once a month] I had to relearn what to do.

  Summary

  I eventually became frustrated with this & uninstalled it in favour of EZBack-it-up, which for me does all that Uranium does but it is so-o-o-o-o simple to use by comparison.

  Lightweight and flexible. General impression of solid software that never hangs. Freeware also for server operating systems like 2003 and 2008. A big number of options.

  Cons

  Not so easy to configure the first time. A wizard for the main backup tasks could be very useful.

  Summary

  Uranium, since first use, gives the impression of a software designed for stability and reliability. The interface is very clear and has no frills. A great thing is the possibility to use it as a portable software. It can be run also from an USB pen. I think Uranium can be the first choice for any data transfer task, between computers in a network or to any mass storage device. The freeware version is usable also on server operating systems, and includes the zip compression and the ISO files creation. An excellent e-mail notification system, togheter with clear and detailed logs, contributes to a very positive opinion of this software.

  Two seconds to install it, clean interface, no weight on the system. Fast, strong and reliable.

  Cons

  An interface that is a little bit old-style.

  Summary

  I was searching for an efficient program to transfer files and folders to various computers in my network and to external hard drives. The first quality I was searching for was stability. I think Uranium is a strong program and, at the same time, it has a low impact on system performances. Other than that, I appreciated the great set of options for e-mail notification, and the log files extremely clear and detailed. One of the best free software for data transfer and backup.

  Pros

  Fairly simple to use, you create a list of items to be backed up, choose the destination, and it does the job. It warned that it would take a long tiime to back up my selection, but in fact it took less than my 45 minutes lunch break.

  Cons

  Believe it or not, it took me a few moments to work out how to start a manual backup (rather than scheduled). The backup files it created all have long alpha-numerical names, their original names are only revealed when I hover the mouse over them.

  Summary

  I'm quite satisfied with this, It does what I want very well.
