The map in The Crew is divided into five regions: the Midwest, East Coast, South, Mountain States, and West Coast. Each region has its own unique landscapes and cities. Players can visit major cities like New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, and Las Vegas. Smaller towns and cities such as Nashville and Norfolk are also included. Driving from one coast to the other takes about 45 minutes in real time.

The single-player mode includes a campaign that lasts around 20 hours. Players take on the role of Alex Taylor, a driver working undercover to infiltrate criminal groups. In addition to the main missions, there are mini-games called Skills Challenges, which include tasks like driving through gates or following a racing line as closely as possible. These challenges allow players to earn points and compete with their friends through online leaderboards.

The multiplayer mode supports up to eight players in competitive races and cooperative missions. Players can form groups called crews to complete tasks together or race against each other. The game has no loading screens, so the experience feels smooth and uninterrupted. Another feature is the option to customize cars using a mobile app available on iOS and Android devices.

To play The Crew, players need an internet connection at all times. This ensures seamless multiplayer gameplay and interaction with other players in real-time events. The game blends its single-player and multiplayer modes, allowing players to switch between them without restrictions.

  • Pros

    • The Crew offers an open world setting, allowing players to explore five different American cities at their own pace.
    • It comes with a team-based element where you can challenge other players or recruit them to form a personal crew - a cool feature for some friendly competition.
    • There's a wide variety of car types and parts, giving enthusiasts plenty of room to customize their racer.
    • Despite being released years ago, the game has retained a healthy player base - it's like the party that never ends!
    • Gameplay is engaging enough to keep you on your toes over an extended period - great for those long weekend gaming sessions.
  • Cons

    • Graphically, The Crew might not be up-to-date compared to more recent games in its genre; it's like going back in time a bit when you play.
    • Recent updates have caused issues for some players who found difficulties running the game smoothly.
    • For those not fond of repetitive tasks, be warned: there's quite some grinding involved in gameplay; might want to stock up on energy drinks!
    • If your thing is offline gaming, then this isn't your cup of tea as it is always online and requires constant internet connectivity.
    • While the game does offer challenges against NPC cars, they only reward car parts and high scores which may limit progression for some gamers if they are looking for something more than just high scores and customizations options for their vehicles.

Bottom Line

The Crew offers a detailed map, smooth multiplayer gameplay, and a unique mix of story and racing. It is suitable for players who enjoy exploring while competing in challenging races.
