Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit captures the essence of arcade-style racing, blending extreme speeds with the thrill of challenging authority. If you yearn for the rebellious joy of reaching impossible speeds in traffic and leaving the police in the dust, the role of street racer is for you.  But if you prefer the satisfaction of maintaining order and bringing reckless drivers to justice, you can choose to enforce the law as a tough police officer.

Visually, Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit is clearly an old game. Still, if you like old graphics like me, it's worth playing. The game's interface is convenient and well designed. The menus are easy to navigate, and racing enthusiasts will appreciate the level of vehicle customization that allows players to improve the look and performance of their vehicles for more robust adventures.

The highlight of Need for Speed III is undoubtedly the iconic "Hot Pursuit" mode. This unique twist on classic racing games allows players to experience a heart-pounding police chase from both sides. Whether you're strategically maneuvering to evade pursuers or using police tactics to stop speedsters in their tracks, the tension and excitement builds quickly.  For casual racing fans, the game also includes a variety of classic racing modes and offers plenty of opportunities to test your driving skills against AI opponents.

Race cars in many modes, including police vs. speeder.
Hit the streets in one of eleven supercars and race them on a variety of tracks in a variety of cars. The game supports one or two players with a modem or serial connection, or up to eight players over a LAN. There's an all-new Hot Pursuit mode wherein you scorch the streets on either side of the law: elude the fuzz as a speeding motorist or enforce justice from a police patrol vehicle. You also can download more cars and tracks from the Need for Speed III Web site. This game supports hardware acceleration, but you can play it software-rendered too. In the demo version, you race against the other cars (no Hot Pursuit mode).
