Editors' Review
Want to chat and browse the Web at work without getting caught by your boss? The Boss Button will hide all personal windows such as chat, Windows Media, and Web browsers with the press of a few buttons.
During our tests, we tried The Boss Button on browser windows and on our Gmail Chat. It quickly hid the all of the windows without a hitch. However, when we tried it on our Windows Media Player window it didn't work. The publisher does invite suggestions for other applications that should be included through their Web site, but the program would definitely benefit from more cloaking options, such as Quick Time windows and Twitter applications. Accessing The Boss Button's instructions was tricky, and we found them only by accident. You can't access the instructions through the desktop icon. Instead, you have to right-click on the taskbar icon. Upon installation, the program adds Quick Launch and Desktop icons without asking. The program should definitely ask before it installs icons, because the whole point of the program is to hide unapproved computer activity from your boss. If there's an icon in plain sight on your desktop that says "The Boss Button," you're asking for trouble! If you use this application, we suggest you delete the desktop icon and run the program using the taskbar icon.
The program includes a 30-day trial period. Though we would have liked to see more cloaking options, the program worked well to hide our chat and browser windows. We recommend it for all user levels.
