Manage the desktop of your PC removeing invisible windows from the taskbar.
Instead of having one desktop on which all windows are shown, you can now have multiple ones, each with its own set of windows. You can switch between desktop by clicking on a desktop in the deskwin window or using a hotkey. Unlike other virtual desktop managers, deskwin will also remove the invisible windows from the task bar.
Does exactly what it needs to and not more. A little rough around the edges but function is what important. The window can be made small and unobtrusive and the colors can likewise be muted (you'll no doubt want to do this right away).
Cons
I can't figure out how to have more than 4 desktops.

How did I live without this Software?
Sidney Miller
Pros
This software is amazing. Because of my job, I might have 20 windows open at the same time - several browsers, some notepad files, Photoshop, Word, etc. I've been going insane. This little beauty basically lets you subdivide your open windows into 4 quadrants. A box showing the 4 quadrants sits on your desktop ... you can make it large or very small. And it shows what you have running in the 4 windows by displaying a white shape of the window (some of my windows I keep small, so they show up as a small rectange for instance).
If you need to get more organized on your desktop, try this software. But let me give you a hint: decide ahead of time how you want to divide your work. You will refine your structure as time passes, but let me explain: I keep certain browser windows in Quadrant 1. I keep Photoshop in Quadrant 2. I keep Outlook 2007 minimized in Quadrant 3 and open any other Microsoft Office products here. And Quadrant 4 is where I go for a quick open ... sometimes I have to open files that have the same name but are from different folders. I go to Quadrant 4 when I need to do this and it helps me not get them confused.
There's not much to this program, but it will help you if you tend to have more than 5 or 6 windows open at the same time. (PS: And you can have a Windows Explorer in each Quadrant positioned to exactly where you are opening files from. No more jumping around in Windows Explorer getting a wrist cramp!)
Cons
It's free and it works. It would be ungrateful for me to complain!
Summary
A perfect tool very similar to the new Apple's 'Space'
mail2dummy
Pros
1. Easy to use

2. Quite compatable with most Windows applications

3. I am starting to wonder if Apple's latest 'Space' is a copycat of Deskwin ...
Cons
1. Very ugly default color theme

2. It acts very strange when one or more windows are showing video content

3. It will be great if there is a snapshot of each desktop on each preview window. This will make it much easier to identify.

What a cool little program, always wanted something like that, who knew it already existed? Just a tiny bit buggy on redisplaying any given desktop, changing the order of the windows on the taskbar (but downloading Taskbar Organizer fixes that one - not a plug, I just like that program too : ) Nice little utility, very effective and highly useful - especially with the hotkeys - I recommend it.
I've been looking for something like this...

I have downloaded and tried numerous free virtual desktop utilities and this one is the best. If you don't like it, then virtual desktops just don't fit your personality. But if you want a *free* virtual desktop, it doesn't get much better than this.
About the colors... they need to change. Right-click on the icon in the task bar and click "Color options." Change it to something that looks better, like blue border, dark blue background, and white crossharis.
Besides the colors (which can be changed), it's a great product!

Summary
The reason I want a product like this is because I have 30 windows open and have a hard time finding them. This program is almost ok, but when it rearranges the windows on each desktop and doesn't remember which window had the focus, I have to pass because I still have a hard time finding what I want on the screen.
Forget!

I used for 2 minutes on Win2k, for never more. Very stable, close the app and hide the programs.
Finally a program that does everything (for free!)

It doesn't get any better than this. I haven't yet found any bugs and the program has never crashed. It has all the features I was looking for including hot-key desktop scrolling, and task filtering on the task bar based on desktop. Works great with XP and Exceed. Highly recommended.
Great lightweight little program

This does everything it's supposed to and nothing else. It's nice to see something that is not bloatware and really works well.
