My Notepad replacement, after trying out 10-15 others

Pros
It's small and fast. Lots of features. Autosave - critical for people who use their Notepad replacement frequently, but rare for notepad replacement programs. Sophisticated search function. Nice set of text utilities, such as tools for capitalizing words in various ways (surprisingly useful), extended replace (replacing beyond line limits), removing duplicate lines, many more. This is the best I've found for jotting down notes, writing drafts of letters, all manner of simple text chores.
Cons
Not a programmer's editor, but I use a separate editor for that. Thus, no searching across files, or programming language syntax coloring, and so on. My least favorite feature is that it doesn't auto-save files until you name them, but no other notepad replacement I tried has this either. No MDI (multiple document interface), but if you use windows 7-8 all the windows are stacked on the taskbar anyway.
Summary
I use multiple text editors depending on my needs, since they take up very little space on modern machines. But this one is my default one for text-only files. (My default for formatted Text files is TextMaker.) I also use Notepad++ and TextPad. Those programs are overkill for simple writing and note-taking tasks. Among my most used programs.

My favorite feature is its ability to handle regular expressions (regexps) during search & replace. This one feature turns what would be a massive headache into a piece of cake.

Pros
CONTAINS AUTOMATIC TIMED BACKUPS OF TEXT FILES. No more losing data because you forgot to save -- this was the ONLY good, small editor I found that has this feature! Good set of text-manipulation utilities. Smart, clean design.
Cons
Lacks bells and whistles of other editors, but I need a simple small editor most often. I use more powerful, resource hungry editors when needed.
Summary
EVERY text editor should automatically save your work periodically! Who doesn't lose data when the computer goes down for whatever reason? This is the best notepad replacement that has this feature. Not even fancier, higher-memory editors like Notepad++ have it! Recommended.

Fast. Lots of unique features--statistics, navigation, remove dups, change case, modify start and ends of lines, . etc etc.
Cons
No bookmarks, no tabbed interface, no unlimited undo.
Summary
Have replaced Win Notepad with this and have not looked back. More easily and quickly doing what I used to do on Notepad... and so much more. If the cons are a deal breaker for you try Notepad++ or TextPad, but both lack many of TED's features.
