• Reproducible and legible formatting; integrates well

  Pros

  1. Parser-based formatting engine delivers highly reproducible formatting of semantically identical code regardless of its original format. This is critical for doing diffs in our source control system where developers are using different SQL dev tools. 2. Very legible format by default 3. Hot key is VERY useful. Allows us to use it within the line-by-line diff tool contained in ORCL Toolbox FormsTool Dev Compare feature. 4. Commandline option allows us to integrate seamlessly with Beyond Compare 5. Inexpensive 6. Very configurable to change the output format 7. Option to output code wrapped in other languages 8. Large % of PL/SQL syntax covered 9. Gives you the line/col # if there is a parsing error, which helps with debugging code. 10. Has option to output to a compact format; re-running on the compacted output with a prettier format the second time around would eliminate all differences due to differing input format. 11. Decent trial period (60 days)

  Cons

  1. I've run across just a couple of syntactic elements that don't parse (we have an Oracle source file that uses EXECUTE as an identifier rather than a keyword; also, our table storage definitons cause a parse error at the NOPARALLEL keyword) 2. So far, just one formatting glitch with CREATE OR REPLACE FORCE VIEW, where it isn't stacking the field names as it does with CREATE TABLE (actually, I see in the options there isn't an option for specifying the formatting for CREATE VIEW) 3. Trial version won't let you paste the output (and doesn't include the commandline option either).

  Summary

  On the whole, I am VERY satisfied with our purchase of SQL Pretty Printer. Our whole team is getting it, and together with ORCL Toolbox's FormsTool, it should tremendously improve our productivity on our Oracle Forms project. Two years after the previous review, I have to say that it does just fine with most long PL/SQL scripts that do not have syntax errors.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Oct 19, 2012<p/>That was supposed to be 4.5 stars, with half-star off for the few parsing errors I have found.
