Once installed, the extension displays a toolbar in your browser's window, and lets you look up various items on Google, Bing, Wikipedia or Yahoo! simply by choosing the preferred option and typing in the keyword, the pressing on the 'Enter' key or the 'Search' button.
If you do not opt for a specific engine (Google, Yahoo!, Wikipedia or Bing), the utility retrieves the results from Google, but using a SmartWebSearch interface. Aside from this function, the addon enables you to go to the Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, Facebook or Twitter homepages by clicking on the proper button. This causes it to open a new window and lets you enter your credentials to login to your account.
The 'Weather' menu displays the current conditions in the detected geographical location, but it can retrieve the data from various other places around the world, using information provided by Foreca. Aside from the 'Temperature', SmartWebSearch also indicates the 'Wind' speed, the 'Humidity' level or the 'UV Index'.
At the same time, you can click on the 'News' menu and view the trending stories on BBC. These are also displayed live next to the RSS button, in single lines. The 'Facebook' menu allows you to connect to your profile and view your notifications or chat with friends, without having to open a new window.
SmartWebSearch is a useful Firefox extension whose purpose is to offer you easy access to the most common websites you use on a regular basis, enabling you to access them just with the push of a button.
