SHDCom for Windows is a program for debugging serial communications. It gives you possibility to send data via serial line and receive it. All of this data are displayed as live hex dump view. Using possibility to listen two COM port in the same time you can actually spy serial communications using same cable you use with ViewComm. Has the possibility to spy communication without port using NT driver. Command line switches support. Scripting support with support for user interaction.

Does everything you need to troubleshoot serial interfaces

Pros
If you have ever troubleshot serial communications between devices and not used a protocol analyzer, you should try this. Combined with a breakout box they tell you everything that is happening. They make a huge difference, and this does all you need. It was tested by me and worked with XP and 2 cheap USB to 9 pin serial cable adapters you can find anywhere. I tested in the single port passive monitor setup, 2 port passive monitor setup, and the NT mode which allows you to monitor a port in use on the same PC. All worked fine. The interface was very easy to use, set up, and follow. <p> <p>With the cable below this will monitor signals but not send any, so it can be used to passively read what is being transferred between 2 other devices.
Cons
They did not provide the pinout for the monitor cables, so here it is. Buy 2 25 pin jumper boxes you can find at Radio Shack (used to make custom adapters for serial cables). Cut a hole in the top of each to pass wires thru. <p> <p>Jumper 1 adapter straight thru (pins 1-1, 2-2, 3-3. etc.)and label as -LINE-. This will be placed in the line being monitored and referred to as the line adapter. <p> <p>Choose 1 port on the other adapter to be the DTE monitor. Wire pins (from line to DTE monitor) 2-3 (TX-RX), 4-5 (CTS-RTS), 7-7 (common), 20-6 (DTR-DSR), 22-8 (CI-DCD) <p> <p>Choose the other port to be the DCE monitor. Wire pins (from line to DCE monitor) 3-3, 5-5, 6-6, 7-7, 8-8 <p> <p>Do not connect any of the DTE monitor pins directly to the DCE monitor pins. <p> <p>Super glue the 2 adapters together, with the ports set 90 degrees apart from each other. Connect to the PC used to monitor the lines using only straight thru adapters and cables.
