  Pros

  A slick and professional version of the wonderful, powerful Smalltalk language. Upgrade to the Professional edition for even more power and features. Once bitten by the Smalltalk bug, you'll never look back.

  Cons

  Unfortunately this is for Windows only development. Hopefully Object Arts will one day port to other platforms and produce a 64-bit version.

  Pros

  Smalltalk, once you've got used to its unusual way of doing things, is the most powerful and most enjoyable tool I've used in over 20 years of professional programming. Dolphin Smalltalk is the slickest and most professional version of Smalltalk available. A hands down winner.

  Cons

  It's a crying shame that Dolphin is Windows only. Many other versions of Smalltalk are multi-platform. Even so, I think Dolphin comes out on top, because it's such a great development environment.

• Impressive, unmatched productivity

  Pros

  The two thing I like the most is productivity and its community. <p>I have been project leading and programming in most languages during more than 15 years. My teams have never been more productive and my products had less errors than with Dolphin (I am now using the pro version). <p>The community support (newsgroup and other sources) is problem-focused and most helpful. <p>In other respects, Dolphin is easy to use, documented. <p>Its Smalltalk nature was a few years ago a con for me, but now I learned to love it and Dolphin has enough Windows integration tools so I don't worry about not using a mainstream language. <p>I guess productivity and product robustness have compensated all the previous concerns I and my clients had. <p>In my point of view, simplicity is king, and Dolphin is SIMPLE, yet most powerful.

  Cons

  This is not really Dolphin's fault but, in order to get the most out of it, one must be really opened to change its way of programming and see software. Otherwise, don't bother. <p>The only thing I miss is lack of WinCE support.

Definitely it's the developer's choice for today and tomorrow using Windows. When I develop software for Windows, I choose this tool.

  Dolphin is a relatively young Smalltalk, that has matured over the past 5 years into one of the most popular Smalltalk environments. <p> <p>It has been built from the ground up to be tightly integrated with Windows, and this results in it producing relatively small, modern Windows applications. <p> <p>Compared with other Smalltalk environments, I found it much easier to learn and understand because the class library code is very clean and concise. Dolphin does not have the multiple layers that OS agnostic Smalltalks require. It results in an environment that feels light and responsive. <p> <p>If you are a Windows programmer curious about Smalltalk, Dolphin is the perfect environment to experiment with.
