Rather than tamper with the gameplay of Rome: Total War, the Barbarian Invasion expansion transports the action a few centuries ahead, as the once-mighty Roman Empire is threatened by barbarians. The expansion will be old hat for fans of the original, but it's still fun to play as King Arthur (Artorius Castus) leading the Romano-British or Attila the Hun battling Flavius Aetius. The graphics are excellent, the interface is impeccable, and the demo offers hours of fun for historical strategists.

In the tutorial, you lead a Roman legion against a Frankish assault in 363 AD. The Battle of Chalons in 451 AD features the Huns bombarding the Romans and Goths, while the Romano-British and the Alemanni fight the Saxons at the Battle of Baldon Hill in 516 AD.

Though large, the demo is easy to set up. The game runs on a standalone set of files, requiring no installation or Registry changes. Once you're done, you can simply delete the whole directory. The demo doesn't give any taste of the campaign-style gameplay, but the adequate tutorial and two historical battles at three difficulty levels provide an excellent introduction to the epic real-time battles of the Rome: Total War franchise.

The game demo is nice. I think it my be beyond the capabilities of my system. I had to reduce som of the features. From the looks of it the game appears to be a solid hybrid rts/turn-based game a perfect follow-up to Shogun which I own and enjoy.
Cons
I wish the features were toned down to run better on my system. I am not into to the graphics as much as the game play.

this game is really great, even for the demo, good graphics, sound,and its much easier than age of empire's, because this is war, not creating a village or gaining resources, you must fight, and destroy your enemy. you will find youself addicted easily as soon as you play it, i bought the gold edition, which has rome total war and its expansion..so if you really like the game enough, go to a store, after all, all this for $20? i want you all to know its worthbuying by telling you some more about it, only read on if you plan to buy it,and no im not advertising, i just want people to enjoy the gae as much as i do, so the the actual game is amazing...alot of battles, custom battles, and even when your mad, fell feel to get 1660 heavy calvary against 2400 peasants... this game really teaches you more about your life as well i look at almost everything differently, after 4 days of gameplay. so do yourself a favor and go to a store. (dont forget tax XD)

small glitch's, such as unit slow response time rarely, and a little situational problems, but it was hard to find anything else.

It was very easy to control your units. unlike most war game strategy you could control as many units as u have. IT was fun and got straight to the war, no spending hours building a city. IT was realistic, depending on how u placed your troops it would effect the outcome of the match.
Cons
no city building or anything. it was just war. camera controls kinda hard kind of complicated-- kinda like rock, paper, scissors. cavalry won against archers. spear men won against cavalry, and so on.except there were a lot of different classes so you had to learn which was good against which. And you had to organize your troops "wisely" or else you would lose

This is a GREAT game. I love the fact that you don't have to build your units and that you have to make due with what you have. The allies you have are also an amazing feature and the battle are some of the most realistic I've seen.
Cons
I think it's kind of annoying that you can't look anywhere you want on the map. Also all the faces of the soldiers are exactly the same, I know the file would be 100x bigger if the customized each soldier, but I think it'd be cool if they put like a helmet or something over their faces so it wouldn't be so noticable.
