Editors’ Review
Despite its intuitive design and ease of use, this file-renaming program can't always handle larger batches of files.
Renamer's well-organized interface makes it easy to choose a folder and select the files you want to rename. You can specify a new file name and output folder, and you can opt to change the file extension as well. With multiple files, Renamer adds a number after your designated new name to differentiate each file. For JPEG files, the program can be set to detect the file creation date and add that date to the new name. You also can opt to add the artist, album, or track information to audio files.
We liked the ability to create a backup file of changes as well as the quick and easy Undo button to reverse changes, and Renamer worked great with smaller batches of files. However, it locked up on occasion with larger batches of files, especially when working with image files.
Although most folks will appreciate this seven-day trial program's simplicity, power users probably will want a program that's able to handle the bigger file-renaming jobs.
