Editors’ Review
This registry editing tool considerably enhances the functionality of Windows' built-in editor, but it lacks a backup and restore feature. RegCOPA Registry Editor's intuitive tree and three-pane interface makes editing easy. The toolbar lists the most common editing tools, with the rest of the tools available through a pull-down menu. Registry folders are displayed in a tree display for easy browsing.
The program lacks an indicator to track search progress. Staring at the screen waiting for the search button to "unghost" will irritate more than a few users. The search and replace feature isn't any faster, but is useful for those moving programs. The Snapshot and Compare function is especially useful for anyone installing unfamiliar software or tracking malware. The Bookmark function also is a great feature to quickly return to favorite registry positions.
On the downside, this program lacks a full backup and restore feature for undoing Registry changes. We're not sure why this feature isn't present--it's fairly standard in applications of this type. The latest version allows for restoring changes after a compare, but the function falls short of a full restore. Despite a novice-friendly approach, RegCOPA Registry Editor will be of most use to system administrators and advanced users.
