• Operational directions vague; confusing...

  After trying "News Rover" (hopeless) and Xnews (2nd time-no auto multi-post combine, I've been trying QuadSucker which seems fine so far: 'finds' all the groups; has a wizard for fairly easy setup; has multi-part, auto-combine...

  How/where do you preview one Attachment (e.g. jpg, png~) from a header group to preview it: so I've had to download one to the H.Disk cache, view it then go for it or move on (sucks); must 'subscribe' before downloading: nonintuitive,complex download

  Summary

  I've decided to purchase QuadSucker News because for one payment you have access to some neat apps.: But, the actual survey of news groups then downloading from them requires two or three windows after touching buttons 'sequence' which is hard to remember-but will learn with experience; so far "Key Word Search" (subject or poster) hasn't worked: I'd type in a word or phrase, have it rejected, then find the Key Word/article/header in the newsgroup; I've emailed for help last week: no reply to date. Download.com doesn't have many news reader offertories, but, I've downloaded NewsBin (Giganews) to try if QuadNews does suck.

  Pros

  With the option of streaming vs. pick&choose modes of operation, getting just the files you want has become very simple and efficient. I'm a happy camper! It has never crashed or caused me other problems and I have been using it several years now.

  I don't use duplicate checking feature any more - it doesn't save me much time.

  Its the best program I've ever used. <p>I really like all the features it has especialy when it has no time expiration on it.I think if anyone really wants to spend any money on a registerd newsgroup downloader this ones the one to invest in.

  The program is surely stable, but the filter option doesn't always work, especially "on the fly". All the other options and features are pretty much bomb-proof. Using the "true" duplicate option requires a lot of memory, so don't plan on any other memory intensive functions if you use that feature. For future versions, adding the ability to edit that filter list in some sort of text format would be ideal. Spammers get more advanced every day, and the ability to share filter settings to defeat them, and to edit them in a format more convenient than just seeing one or two at a time in the filter editor in this program, would be great.
