This handy and free utility quickly converts almost every unit of measurement under the sun into other units. Quad-Lock Unit Converter is not just small, but it's also time-efficient, as no installation is required other than clicking on the EXE file. When determining conversions, you first select from a long list of subjects, including ones for area, charge, temperature, mass, density, and thermal conductance. If you don't regularly work with, say, viscosity, you can remove it from the main window. You then choose your source and desired units, such as feet to centimeters. After that, you simply type in a specific number, and this application will convert it to your desired unit in mere seconds. Quad-Lock Unit Converter also provides quick access to a scientific calculator, but that's about the only extra you'll find. Whether you're a scientist working out complex equations or a traveler who's baffled by the metric system, this freebie can help you out of a bind.
What’s new in version 5.4
* Added ability to perform coordinate transformations from latitude/longitude to UTM (and vice-versa). * Added Heat Flux conversion category with 25 units * Added Magnetic Flux conversion category with 14 units * Added Volumetric Heat Generation category with 11 units * Added 6 new units to Fuel Consumption category (non-linear conversions such as Liters/100km to Miles/Gallon) * Corrected conversion factor in Amount of Substance; 1 mol = 1000 mmol, showed 1000000 mmol * Re-organized main menu. Also, added an icon next to each menu item. * Quad-Lock Converter now uses Unicode for the entire program (UI controls and the engine), enabling internationalization. * Removed restrictions such that users can now add an un-limited number of custom units and categories. Furthermore, users can also add non-multiplicative unit conversions (such as from Liters/100km to Miles/Gallon) * Changed location of UnitConverter.ini (preferences file) to the %APPDATA%\UnitConverter folder or, if running from a removable drive, to the removable drive's root folder (e.g. F:\UnitConverter.ini). * User defined custom categories can now be rendered visible or invisible in the main window using Main Menu > Edit > Preferences * The conversion engine now uses a hash table to efficiently map unit names to associated conversion factors. This should improve speed on old and obsolete computers (the difference may not be noticeable on fast modern computers).
Just about every unit conversion you could ever need.
benjiroo
Pros
Easy to use.
Has every unit conversion you could possibly need.
Cons
Maybe too many units. Would be nice to allow user to hide unneeded units. For example, I don't really need a conversion for attajoules or megaliters.
Summary
Just about every unit conversion you could ever need. I would only make one change for full five-star rating: I think it would be nice to be able to hide units that we never need, to reduce having to scroll through all those extra unit conversions.
Nice And Useful Unit Converter
Boris_yo
Pros
Convenient in usability and has a search and swap conversions feature
Cons
Haven't found any
Summary
Given many categories of conversion to choose from, this converter features search function that can save you clicking and scrolling time to find conversion you are looking for.
CANT INSTALL ON MY XP

Summary
waste of time
Not for Engineers/Scientists
ttonon
Pros
well organized, easy to use
Cons
Does not have important dimensional quantities, such as viscosity
Summary
There are much better converters; e.g., Sporlan Valve Unit Converter, which are much more comprehensive
Just what we need to compete projects on hand

Pros
Great tool to have. all mesuarments on hand as needed
Cons
found none at this time
Summary
Recommended for users on field service and school.
help me in my calculation, thanks.....

Pros
good when dealing with simple math, chemical or engineering calculation.... it make converting unit more simple and save my time.
Cons
thank you for the developer and also credit to www.download.com because sharing me this great software. also to other great softwares that i download from download.com too. thank you.

Pros
I'll never know. Looks like it was the best of the bunch of the free converters, with some good features such as Search
Cons
Downloaded it twice, each time it appeared on my screen but after one use it was gone & I couldn't open it again. XP Search found 3 or 4 files but none opened anything. Contact screen on maker's website is for business customers.

Pros
This is an excellent unit converter. It's small, fast, and converts just about anything you can think of. Oh, and it's freeware.
Cons
Uh, the *only* con I can think of? There's no Linux version. 3 of my 4 computers now run Ubuntu, and I wish I had this on Ubuntu.
Summary
You won't find a better converter than this. This is an excellent program, and I thank the creator of it for sharing it!
Outragiously useful
bill_pfaff
Pros
Converts every thing I can think of to convert
Cons
None I can see
Summary
Pretty straight up and user friendly. I can't think of any value you could need to covert that it doesn't have already
Great product and very powerful
wornout99
Pros
Just the product I needed as I was born and lived in the USA on the non-metric system and now I am retired and living in Baja, Mexico and on the full metric system.
Cons
My only problem with the product was ME. I didn't realize it was so customizable until I checked out the third tab in preferences.
Summary
You should have this product, whether or not you are retired :-)
Unit Converter is a freeware tool that can take care of all your unit conversions even when offline. It has an easy-to-use interface and contains most of the units commonly encountered while solving engineering problems. With more than 900 units, you are likely to find the units you are looking for. Other features include the ability to quickly search for units and categories, and add user-defined conversions. Everything is built into a single executable file so no uninstaller is necessary. Its small file size makes it easy to distribute among friends and co-workers.
Version 5.4 adds ability to perform coordinate transformations from latitude/longitude to UTM (and vice-versa).
