On the surface, this privacy-preservation app looks pretty well-rounded, but the anemic demo doesn't actually do anything. Privacy Internet Eraser does indeed wipe tracks from several browsers, including Opera, Internet Explorer, and Netscape. You also can clean up common Windows system areas such as the Run Menu and the Recycle Bin. The application supports a decent amount of third-party plug-ins, though it strangely can't tidy up the major IM clients. Privacy Internet Eraser includes a very basic scheduler, a boss key for hiding open windows, and a simple file shredder. Though it can overwrite tracks and delete files according to a user-specified number of passes, it doesn't use government-approved deletion algorithms. If that all sounds good, you'll be as disappointed as we were when we found out this trial version can't remove a single item until you plunk down some cash. Therefore, we can't even guarantee this application will work smoothly, let alone recommend it.
