  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I've been using plot for a while and even donated &#36;20. It is relatively easy to use, and has a nice set of features. But I recently noticed that it has a serious flaw. I tried to contact the developer, a bunch of times the messages simply bounced as undeliverable (also the link to plot developer site (plot.micw.de) on versiontracker under about micw goes to a generic parked domain), and I have not heard anything. Sure, it is free, but still....<p> The problem I have: I am plotting absorption spectra, sometimes with 20'000 points, and features that are only a few points wide. I usually create an overview plot and then zoom in. Thats when I noticed that the spectra look different. In the overview, there are fewer features, some are "swallowed". When you increase the size of the plot, or you reduce the axis range, more features become visible. This in my view is a serious flaw, which prevents me from using the software.<p> Another minor problem is that I have not figured out how to go back and change subviews, move legends, etc once you have added another subview.<p> The macro language seems a nice feature, but I have not figured out how to use it yet.<p> <b>On the plus side</b>, it makes really nice output. So, if you want something that makes nicer plots than excel, this may be your choice, but be aware of the limitations I noticed above.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />This is a first-rate plotting program with lots of well-planned features that are easy to access. It has many high-end features that many people who use plotters need such as data organization, reporting, curve fitting, macros, and a really great interface. The developer is competent and responsive. It is Mac-only and from comments on the developer's web site it appears that it will remain so, so that there is no worry that it will become polluted with cross-platform crap. While it lacks a full-blown programming language and many of the features of the excellent (and expensive) Igor Pro, some people who would use Igor Pro for only plotting and basic data analysis should certainly check out Plot.

Replacement of Microcal Origin is desperately needed, and 'plot' is developing so fast that it may even overcome Origin soon. Even now, in version 0.7 it works for me much better than grace, xmgrace, gnuplot etc.., for the same excellent price (free). Lets support it to keep it free! <p> Plot is good citizen of MAC OS X family and a must for scientific desktop.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Although it's still "incomplete", Plot is going a long way to fulfilling my desire for a good, simple, *native* plotting program. The manner in which the raw data are incorporated does take quite a bit of getting used to for someone more accustomed to spreadsheet-style data editors (e.g., CricketGraph) and some more explanation in the docs would help here. (Although I can understand that the docs always lag a bit behind -- let's get the program written, right?) But, my God, is the program powerful! It already does more things than many complete applications out there. Good job and looking very much forward to future updates!
