• Overall a Great IDE for PERL

  Pros

  It's a great free IDE. It's very easy to install. It's got a nice editor, and like a true IDE, program execution can take place in the IDE. It highlights properly, and does most of what you would expect.

  Cons

  The debugger does not work, or works in such a terrible fashion as to be unusable. This is not a major distraction, as I only need to use it from time to time. It also does not do code folding, but that's not too big a deal.

  Summary

  This is really the second best PERL IDE. The best one is Eclipse which is also free. I used this product for about 6 months before switching to Eclipse. Let me warn you that setting up the Eclipse IDE to properly work with PERL takes some work. It's not rocket science, but if you are a computer science major it will still take you an hour or two to do it. If you're just a beginner, expect to take much longer. That's why I recommend this product to start. Once you get up to speed on PERL, then try to set up Eclipse. If you don't set it up right, you can't debug properly.

  Pros

  perl express is really good software, it's a great looking and very functional IDE. impressive. i would recomend this for someone who is good with perl, or for a novice with a good companion perl programming book.

  Cons

  the only negative is that the documnetation and help files are not terribly helpful.

  I am evaluating a bunch of software to use for simple in house scripts. This one is the worst so far. Stay clear.

• Don't install if you use your computer

  Summary

  This program is good only on a virgin computer. If you install it on a computer where you also run other development tools, it will interfer with those programs. Tech support is also arrogrant and rude, so don't ask for help, especially on how to remove from your computer.
