• It does what is advertised, documentation is too spare

  Pros

  This product is not for the faint of heart. What it is intended to do is not intuitively clear, but it does it well. Think of Mail Merge in the product from Redmond. It works, if you know what you are doing. pdfedit is a swiss-army knife of features. Every time I needed to use one, there was the same learning curve I face for complex features (like my MS example above). It puts watermarks / letterhead backgrounds when I want to convert a letter to a letterhead document. It splits and combines PDF documents when you can't have everything you want in a single source file (such as merging spreadsheet, graphic and word processing source content into a single PDF - yes DDE / embedded objects sort-of-works, but it's a heavy overhead feature from Redmond that I hate to use.) You usually have to do the tool 2 or 3 times to understand how it works. But you get what you want.

  Cons

  Miserable user doc, no examples showing how to do it. The links, bookmark and extract (split PDF into multiple files) features are extremely hard to use. The combine feature works extremely well, and it almost intuitive. The UI is poor - there are 3 rows of tabs, and the dialog box doesn't resize. Most features depend on a couple of setup files which are hidden under an obscure location in c:\users\{my profile folder}, and how to use them is undocumented. The links feature only works for external URLs, not internal bookmarked locations in your document, but this may be a limitation in how the Adobe PDF file layout works.

  Summary

  Good tool if you know how to use it, and have time to experiment.

• Installation Fails - requires previous version

  None. I'll try another piece of software.

  Cons

  They give you an installation that will fail unless you already have the previous version installed. Then they give you the installation successful web page. No option to install the previous version is offered - at least none that you can find easily. I'm not hunting for it I'll just use a different piece of software, eh!

  Summary

  IMHO: If they can't get the installation right... don't waste your time - pick something else.

• BEWARE ADWARE

  didn't get that far, busy uninstalling all the adware.

  yeah. It comes with loads of adware and it doesn't use the traditional bullet options with "yes in stall extras" or "no thanks." The adware options look as if you're just accepting the agreement for the main software.

  Summary

  Stay away from this. You'll send up with tool bars, pop up ads, and 5 new programs you didn't sign up for to uninstall.

  The free version does everything you want with minimal advertising and the upgrade is inexpensive if you want it.

  Too many modules, too much to install, doesn't permit editing on free version

• Great multi purpose PDF tool

  Pros

  Very effective to combine multiple PDFs, add water mark/ stationery etc. Has more features than I have learned

  Can't resize window; poor documentation, so you have to experiment. No preview

  Can't find any yet. Never could get the software to do what I needed.

  Have to download module after module, and even then, the software is very confusing.

  Summary

  I just want to edit a business card that is in PDF format, this product failed at that. The constant need to go back to their website and download module after module to allow you to even install the PdfEdit is a crock. Seems like a scam type of company who just wants your money. Granted you get what you pay for and Free is Free, but, in their case the software is Free and if you don't value wasting your time, this may be for you. I will never get back the hour I wasted trying to get it to work, to me, that is a cost.
