• Will remove PDF restrictions, will not open a password

  Pros

  I tried this software against two PDF files that were restricted, meaning you can open them but not print or edit them. This software was able to remove the restrictions on the file that used 128 bit RC4 encryption but not the one that used 128 Bit AES encryption. Adobe 7 and higher uses AES.

  Cons

  Received the error "an error occurred while parsing a contents stream" when trying to remove the restrictions from a PDF with 128 bit AES. Since AES is the standard for Adobe, this software is dated. Cannot not access password protected PDFs.

  Summary

  Will remove restrictions from older PDFs, but that is the limit of this software's functionality.

  Pros

  Fast, removed the owner password from the PDF document instantly. You can open several instances of the program.

  Cons

  Graphic interface way too simple, PDF technologies should at least provide an "about" link to their website. I had to dig a bit to get it since it was not provided by "About.com" review of the software, which is where I downloaded it from.

  Summary

  I store my paid credit card bills in PDF (paperless) and the credit card company uses a password to secure their PDF bills (really annoying), making it impossible for me to add a PDF copy of the Paid bill receipt. PDF password Remover worked great. It instantly removed the password from the PDF bill, making it usable to insert the PDF receipt into it and ready it for storage. PDF Password Remover is quite simple to use, works fast and did the job for me. Its free, checked for viruses/malware and was clean. If you don't care to identify the password (which can take days or weeks with a decrypt tool) then use this Password Remover. Works on Windows 7 - 64 bit.

  When I fed it a password protected pdf it gave me an error message saying "invalid password" Kinda defeats the whole purpose.

  Pros

  Installs correctly, easy to use and produced results on all the files I tested with. Fast, very fast. Free, very free. PDF Technologies offers several free PDF-processing applications along with commercial products.

  Cons

  UI is less than informative - status windows appear and disappear far too quickly to read. No logging. But it's free...

  Summary

  Don't bother with anything else offered here (at least for free). There are too many duplicates wrapped in different graphics, and NONE of those I found on CNET worked OR were anything more than self-executing advertisements.

  Didn't work on my PDF Install seems to put in a lot of hooks beyond what one would think necessary for such a simple purpose.

  Summary

  Didn't work on encrypted PDF (to which I know password, but want to save without) -- gave unhelpful error 'Invalid Password'.
