Pros
Data move was smooth and didn't find the interface too bad but I am an IT tech. Most programs that it could move worked. However...
Cons
Totally failed to accommodate Outlook when ACT was also used. Said it had moved successfully but Outlook and ACT failed to work properly even though the rest of MS Office worked fine.
Summary
Overall not worth the cost, especially as a re-install of Windows meant buying a new licence for it to fail yet again when moving *just* MS Office.
Inconsistent; poor interface

Pros
Worked one time with help of customer service, even transferred MS Office, sort of. Second "success" (Attempt #48) transferred everything BUT MS Office. Free customer service at 11 pm remoted in, turned off Firewalls and antivirus and got it going! Next morning, 95% success! Restarted after inadvertent suspend seamlessly.

Summary
Poor interface. Lots of color and flashy lettering, but the crucial messages are in small, black, plain font. Second effort (after Disk Restore) wouldn't work. Support said need to call 9-5 Eastern time to reset serial number. So much for 24 hour support. Numerous attempts after. Clue: When one counter is counting away, but the other is just sitting, start over, you're wasting time. Third call to support sevarl days later was obviously just a sales scam. Started off by warning me that free support was limited in scope. A few minutes later, tech woefully starts to tell me I need the $100+ dollar tech subscription, forgetting that I could see all he was doing on my two screens.... He hadn't bothered clicking "Next" to start the transfer. Clearly he was dead set on selling a subscription. After telling his supervisor (who wouldn't listen to my complaint) they both should be jailed, hung up and fixed the minor problem myself (If you re-download on one machine, re-download both.... even tiny differences in build numbers are deadly. Failed about 25 times after that first success. Then finally got it to work, although no transfer of MS Office second time. So maybe just take the free version and reinstall your applications. You get what you pay for, and this is definitely still shareware.

Pros
Copied every program and file from my old laptop to my new one. The only one that didn't copy was my Microsoft Office program, but that may be a Microsoft thing. Even my desktop pic and icons were all there! Definitely MUCH easier than copying manually and reinstalling everything!
Cons
Quite slow when using the wireless internet option (as most probably would). I set mine to start when I went to bed and it still wasn't done 6 hrs later. Took about 8 hrs. I suggest getting the cable (either from laplink or a comparable one) as would prob be much quicker.
Summary
For the price, it's worth the hours of your time it would take to transfer and reinstall all you have on your old computer.

Using a cable is best. Transferring over wifi is quite slow, but overall it's quite a good product. I made a mistake and support helped clear it up quickly.

Pros
Clean, easy to understand user interface Simple, easy to follow instructions Comes up with an exhaustive list of files, software and settings, from which you can pick and choose what you want to transfer. When you're done with the transfer, software that was transferred runs perfectly. No need to find the product registration key and reenter it. This by itself makes PCmover well worth the cost. Little things like user account profile picture and desktop wallpaper also get transferred to the new computer. When you start the new computer up, it looks nearly identical to your old computer. The transfer process works between different operating system versions. I used it to transfer files, software and settings from a Windows 7 laptop to a Windows 8.1 laptop.
Cons
One (very) small con is that there are a few things that PCmover says it can't transfer. But for me these were minor things that I was able to take care of myself in only an hour or two of time. I even hesitate to call this a "con" since it was so minor.
Summary
I have had the "pleasure" of upgrading and/or reinstalling operating systems and software on several computers over the years. The process was always very lengthy and prone to mistakes or other issues. I tried PCmover for the first time to transfer my daughter's files, software, and settings from her old and dying Windows 7 laptop to her new Windows 8.1 laptop. I initiated the process on a Saturday night, and it had completed successfully by early the next morning. Normally I would have spent several days getting everything reinstalled and in good working order, and our daughter would have spent some time in setting up her personal preferences, such as account settings, desktop wallpaper, etc. This time, though, this was all taken care of for us by PCmover. Of course, the real test was when our daughter started using the new machine. It has been one month now, and she has had absolutely no issues. She hasn't had to go back and look up anything on the old laptop even once. I used Laplink's SafeErase software today to wipe her old laptop clean. Overall I am very pleased with this first experience using PCmover. I will definitely plan on using it again for future computer upgrades.

Was told by sales/customer support that Office would come over in the process. I also mentioned that I did not have the authentication key as it was installed buy a repair facility after a hard dive crash. The assured me that there would be no issue. But of course it now requires me input the key which I don't have making this software a totally useless purchase as I now have to buy Office. Don't waste you money!

Pros
This application picks up most of the settings that make a Windows XP comfortable in front of their computer and it makes those settings native to a Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 environment.
Cons
This is not a perfect or seamless transfer. Some files may be locked at the source Windows XP computer or otherwise unreadable or the transfer apparatus may relocate files to a logical (but not obvious) new location in the new directory hierarchy of Windows 8.1. There may still be growing pains with the upgrade but this application definitely reduces the agony.
Summary
FIVE STAR PLUS... ...OUTSTANDING!!! Its always nice when an application delivers exactly what it promises. With as many incarnations of Windows as there are between XP and 8.1, I was sure I was in for a traumatic upgrade. As a sole-practitioner lawyer, technology upgrades are a dreaded thing (all cost and little return with a lot of short term pain). Laplink, thank you for taking the sting out of transferring my files and settings across these two platforms. And your application completed the transfer in half the time I thought it would take! Cudos to you and to Microsoft for making this service available through their trusted domain (search on 'windows xp transfer-your-data'

We loved Laplink PC Mover! Here at TutorTutors.com we use the computer all the time, so when Microsoft alerted us on our computer XP here last week to move all the files and the programs because their XP support is ending in a couple of weeks - it suggested to us to use Laplink, to move all those important student and tutor files and registration pages. So, we hurried last week and implemented this wonderful program Laplink PC Mover to move all our files and folders to our new Windows 8 computer. It took several hours but it went without a hitch! Thank you so much PC Movers!!! :)
