This faulty application is supposed to safeguard your account and login information, but proves to be more a security risk than a security measure. Initially, you'll have to set a username and password to access PassCache. We were shocked to see the same setup window, complete with our login and password data for opening the program, each time we launched the program. Security is also lax with the system tray icon. No login is required when you choose Show PassCache from the context menu, and the window that opens displays your accounts with a right-click option to edit the record, allowing total access to your account and login data. PassCache offers only the most basic tools: a password generator, links to associated Web sites, and options to copy and paste login information. Unlike more advanced programs, PassCache doesn't erase the clipboard entry after pasting, another notch on the security risk side. This 15-day trial doesn't impress, and with its security issues, we definitely can't recommend it to protect your data.

Developer's Description

Manage passwords and login IDs for multiple systems.
The Pass Cache password management system is designed to provide the user with a secure environment within which to manage their passwords and login IDs to multiple systems. It employs cryptographic functions to encrypt and decrypt the data in order to protect it. It also introduces functionality to allow the user to enter a login and/or password into a site or system without having to type or see the password, using standard Windows copy and paste activities. While the encryption employed is not of the quality required for the United States government or it's intelligence agencies, it is strong enough to resist casual attempts to discover it, and will certainly preclude the casual user from identifying the login and password combinations. PassCache is written in VB.Net.
