Open+, simply put, eliminates the issues of file associations in Windows - a problem not truly addressed until now. File association is simply an old mechanism in Windows inherited from the pre-Windows era (the DOS personal computer days). It works by looking at a file's extension which is the characters after the last dot of any file name (.html, .mp3, .jpg, .doc, and so on). Windows launches the program that last claimed that file type. The problem is that many programs can open a given file type, and until Open+, there was simply no sane mechanism in Windows to cater to multiple programs using the same extension(s). Furthermore, the program that takes 'ownership' of the file is usually the last program you installed and quite often is not the program you really want to own the extensions it took over. Open+ eliminates these issues and also enhances the very nature of associations in Windows. Key features of Open+ 2.0 are: the unique ability to associate many programs with many extensions in Windows. Does not tamper in anyway with your actual Windows associations - your icons will remain the same regardless of your Open+ settings so you always know what you are clicking on. Your settings in Open+ will always override Windows associations - never again will you have to suffer the inconvenience of installing new programs that 'take over' associations on your computer that you then somehow have to try and restore. Includes a number of 'Quick Start' features - you will be using Open+ with speed and confidence - within minutes.

This is a useful tool even if you have Windows 2000 installed as I do. It is very simple to associate many different programs with a single file extension, very useful for me. It is also easy to allow / designate a default program to open a file. What I did not find easy about this program was the severely lacking help file. There might be features I have not found on this program, but its obvious that if you have a question you cant get answers from the help file. Very basic information here and not even covering all the basic outlay of the program. Help file needs much work. However if you just want to use the basic function of associating a program to an extension, this works great.
It just hit the spot !

This program is for the truly lazy. if you cant keep track of your ext. or play with options on your own, chances are your going to run into more problems you cant fix unless you educate yourself. Skip this and spend the 5 minutes it takes...besides your computer proly needs a good cleaning up by you anyways.

I'm so glad that I have Win2k, which has this feature built in, just so that I download have to download this program. I'm sure it works great and does what it says, but even though I already have this feature on my home computer, I don't really think it's that revolutionary or magical...I mean, I haven't seen jesus or anything yet. but neat idea.
