After using OneStep for more than 2 years in one little business, I have found it to be a robust program that can do just about anything (if you can figure it out) except export and integrate. A major plus is the inventory assembly capabilities. Where else can you find that for free? I also like the totally customizable forms. OneStep is a good solution for a just-starting, low budget, small business.
Cons
I do remember some minor difficulty in installation the first time around, but obviously over came it, whatever it was. The major drawback is it's lack of integration and user-friendliness. It does fall short in these areas compared to other accounting software, such as Quickbooks, but look at the price difference!

The program looks like a robust little piece of software, but alas can you survive the pain trying to install it, and even worse trying to delete it, and worse still trying to get in touch with the developer.

No 1 The Company is not contactable, they have removed their forum, and your emails just come back unread "no such address" <p> <p>I took special care with installing this software after reading all these reviews but the program is programmed to do its own thing, just pure plain stubborn. <p> <p>I consider myself quite savvy to read instructions and comply. So that out of the way Why did'nt it install properly. Some files were dumped on my C: Drive without being placed into folders and then the server calls for my CD Rom drive E: instead of my C: Drive where it dumped the files. <p> If I could find a way to tell the server C: Drive not E: Drive then maybe the program will fire up. Seem as there is no more FORUM and the owner is not interested in fufilling his moral duties, if somebody knows what to do please let me know too trevords@absamail.co.za

The software failed to install after a lengthy process that downloaded lots of files. Kept on getting a failure to merge error message and lots of similar messages throught the install process.

Had to install both database and accounting software. Close to impossible to uninstall. I had to figure out the running database program in the background before deleting it through the control panel.

What they don't tell you is you must install 2 files. An interbase/DB file, both total about 30MB. Each step is time consuming. Directs are not user friendly and the important directions are deep within alot of unnecessary info. You could spend several hours reading and working with it, only to find adding inventory has its own bugs too! Go to their website and read posts at their forum... It may help some. You must go the "start", programs and then click interbase, click server manager and then "stop"... to stop the local server from running before you can complete install it. This software is far more trouble than it is worth.. even for free!

Haven't worked with it a whole lot yet but the installation and startup went smooth on Win98 and the user guide is excellent. Everything seems to work fine if you read the 3 sentences in the read me file which say to install the database then to install the accounting program. I would ignore the comments that say the program isn't what it says it is and give it a try.

I read thru the current reviews and I must say disregard ALL of the negative reviews. These people obviously know nothing about software/databases and installations. It works perfect on Win2k and WinXP, it installs without a problem. Yes, it does use InterBase for the database engine and you have to install this first, it comes in the download. It uses a sql DB and it even comes with the interface to open the DB if you're savvy enough like I am. Read the install manual and look at the sample company DB once you understand everything it is pretty easy to set-up your system. Again, it works perfectly and the free version does everything, however if you plan to continue using there are some extra features in the pro version you may want and worth it for only $90
EXCELLENT product.... once you get it installed

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! But, it's essential to read the Installation guide. If you don't you will never figure it out by yourself (I tried...) But once it is installed, it is FULLY functional and a truly excellent product. Especially at this price!
