• Software System with Objects everywhere

  Pros

  Full of features. Rich modern tools. Very extensible. Well documented. Free Software. This package is not just a Database. ODABA contains many tools that are beyond the definition of Structure. Some demos show how to embed a Media Player, others implement complex schema.

  Cons

  Hard to learn. ODABA has many features and its important to know at least some Concepts. The documentation is written in English only and the tools cannot compete with other IDE's at some features.

  Introduction For some time a new software is available, called odaba. it has a strange name and is hard to get at the first glance. At the beginning there is the documentation. A lot of text to read. There are images that make the text more practical and there are theoretic papers about data storage. At first things are hard to understand. They feel different from the current world's technology. Differences It provides a full language and environment that makes it easy to create large projects, including odaba. On the other hand does odaba not match all requirements at once, requirements you need in current systems and even some you'd expect when reading 'http'. Some features are plugable to disconnect dependencies some features are embedded. Consistent Terminology the programming as well as the user interface is very consistent and well documented. Its not only a database interface but a interface to a object-oriented application. ODABA handles complex data and provides interesting ways to create programs. When you do you first steps with the tools you may think that there are far better environments and better frameworks, but they all lack a thing odaba implements. Relationships. Your function is used by 2 other functions for similar reasons, types. Every text-based IDE needs to parse this information _from_ the source and relies on your intelligence to manage the links. Using odaba this relationships are persistent. They are checked by a machine at the moment you define it. Your function is virtual - a checkbox, the signal/slot mechanism of qt is a handy thing that avoids very much typing. Its a mouse interface. Popup windows and active data controls everywhere. Example A Country has Cities, each a type with different Attributes. Inheritance allow Villages and Cities to relate. This information in gathered at once, without coding, no programming language. Once this information is stored it can be transformed into any context. Maybe you need a SQL database with all Cities and Countries or you need to access it in a strange new language. Once its defined one may only understand how the relationships are expressed in the target system - once. Community Currently there is a silent community. This may be something that has to do with the complexity of the topic or the intensive possibilities. There are already some companies that rely on older versions. Once the application is defined everything runs smooth, impossible complex systems. Even for small applications the benefits of consistent documentation and source are valuable time savers. Its free to build applications on it and use the ones that come with it in any context. Summary ODABA is a operating system. In C/C++. It features a shell and can speak sockets. Some features are better defined in different Types, but a major cleanup is already through that system. You can see the progess in features and language with the C#/C++/OSI interface. Maybe You like it.

  Summary

  ODABA consists of more tools than some operating systems deliver. Some work like expected and some have a difficult calling convention. When you give the concepts of the ODE tools the chance to evolve they are - even with some essential missing features like code completion - superior to every existing IDE. ODABA can be configured to cooperate with every thinkable compiler. It can interface to well known protocols and if you are missing eg xml:fo support you can add it without changing the binaries. The development of ODABA is fast. In about half a year there are 3 minor and 2 major releases and from the amount of code commited the future looks very promising as it introduces features, fixes existing code and cleans up some old habits like using const consequently.
