Editors’ Review
My Simple Desktop Office Edition is an easy-to-use program that allows users to control access to certain computer functions. You don't have to be an IT expert to keep employees from accessing things that they shouldn't; My Simple Desktop is so intuitive that just about anyone could use it.
The program's interface is simple and easy to understand. Setting restrictions is as simple as clicking check boxes for the features you want to disable. Want to hide the taskbar or disable the Start menu, or restrict access to the Control Panel or certain drives? Check the appropriate boxes, save your changes, log out and back in, and you're done. You can set restrictions for all users, all users but administrators, or certain users identified by name. Password protection keeps unauthorized users from nosing around in the program. One unique feature of My Simple Desktop is the Agent, which is a small box showing the security level and current time (or time left in the session). Administrators can configure the agent to allow access to five Agent Folders, containing administrator-defined resources that the user may need. This allows administrators to set high security levels while still giving users access to what they need to do their jobs. Using the Agent, users can also put time limits on sessions or have the program log the user off after a certain period of inactivity. The built-in Help file isn't bad, but we would have liked some more detailed information. Overall, we think My Simple Desktop is a great program, both powerful and intuitive.
My Simple Desktop has a 30-day trial period. It installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program to all users.
