My Own Backup is an easy and powerful backup program. It supports most computer media, including CD-RW, Zip and Jaz disks, even floppies. You can store the backed-up files uncompressed for easy access, or compressed in .zip format for more efficient storage. The Explorer-like interface enables you to select files with ease, and a backup log helps you keep track of each transaction. Backups are performed in sets, so you can back up all of your data at one time, or break it down into specific categories. Like most programs, you can have the program back up at certain intervals, or drag and drop files manually. Other features include diskspan, backup multiple sets simultaneously, auto-save backup sets, password-protect backups, command-line support, and much more. The program is for local devices only, and cannot be used with network drives.
The backups MOB creates are just zip files, so you don't need another program to restore your data. You can create multiple sets to backup different sets of data.
Cons
The main program dialog is not resizeable, so longer folder names are cut off in the display area.
Summary
I've used this simple little program for at least 5 years to create zip backups of various data folders. It is perfect for my simple needs. I just wish I could get in touch with the author, to ask him to update the program or release the source code so someone else can.
