Multi Commander (32-bit) for Windows

With its useful features and accessible interface, Multi Commander offers a viable alternative to Windows Explorer. In most areas this app is an improvement over the default PC file explorer, though being forced to use it alongside the latter is annoying.

Pros

Feature-packed: Multi Commander offers many more features than Windows Explorer, including tabbed browsing and a dual panel display that add more functionality and increase the ease of use of your file manager. One particularly helpful feature is the ability to assign hot keys for operations, speeding up routine file management tasks. Another useful feature allows you to copy a filepath with just one click of the appropriate button.

Built-in archive support: The integrated ZIP and RAR compatibility allows you to conveniently ZIP and UNZIP archives within the file manager without having to install a dedicated archiving software.

Cons

Conflicts with the default file manager: There is no way to set Multi Commander as the default file manager over Windows Explorer. Process Explorer, an alternative to Task Manager, does allow an override of the default setting over the Windows standard, so we know this is possible. For the sake of convenience, the developers of Multi Commander need to figure out how to do it.

Bottom Line

If you're dissatisfied with the lack of features of the default file explorer on your PC, you should definitely give Multi Commander a go. It could do with more polish, but even in its current form we recommend it as a ready and able replacement for Windows Explorer.
