This developer add-on enables local video and audio recording directly from the browser. It allows developers to capture media using JavaScript and then access the files using standard HTML5 File APIs for server uploads.

Top Recommended Alternative

  • Pros

    • Accesses local video and audio recording capabilities
    • Implemented with a few lines of JavaScript
    • Encodes media into open Theora and Vorbis formats
    • Integrates with HTML5 File APIs for DOM access
    • Resulting files can be uploaded to a server

  • Cons

    • Designated as an early developer prototype
    • Functionality is exclusive to the Firefox browser
    • Output is limited to Ogg, Theora, and Vorbis
