• AT YOUR OWN RISK: Beware of Downloads from Cnet!!!!

  BeWareOfCnetSeptember 7, 2013

  Pros

Yeah, I eventually got the file I wanted to download but at a cost...

  Cons

There was a nice little pop up that said that Cnet certifies that the file if 100% free of viruses etc... DO NOT BELIEVE THEM. There was a nice little Trojan within the download package. Without my anti virus scanning everything coming into my computer, I would have been hosed. The download also reconfigured my web browser to only use Cnet's partner companies. Had to undo all of that crap to get my computer back to how I like it.

  Summary

In summary, I have now learned my lesson to NEVER download anything from Cnet nor to endorse their practices. They may need to update their internal security systems to make sure that the files are truly clean. Anyone can say 'oops,' but as a service provider, Cnet/CBS needs to rise to a greater responsibility.
