• "Updating" original software? Selling the same failure.

  Even more headaches offered with this update.

  Cons

  The original version of the software and the WD My World Book Edition II hardware (2 one TB HDD mirrored RAID 1) have never worked easily or reliably. This "update" came as an automatic pop-up when trying to fix all the problems using the original. This appears as a built-in sales effort to boost sales of "update" software that does not fix the problems in the original. Very poor documentation, help or user guides for either versions on how the hardware works, or the software functions. Slow when first installed and even slower when more files are monitored or added. Taking the NAS off the network and directly connecting it to PC and it slows down even further. Will convert the WD NAS to two external hard drives and start using free shareware to do the back ups.

  A waste of time and money.

  For one backup plan, it installed quickly and worked

  It forgot my second backup plan Software remembers past plans though it can't access them No help from the company

  Summary

  The software forgot second backup plan within a week. Something on the drive prevents me from reinstalling the backup. I see people with this same problem from back in 2007 and it isn't addressed. Have been unable to get the problem to a representative for help.

• Extremely good automatic 'real-time' backup software

  Pros

  Automatically includes Documents, Pictures, Music, email, etc. Easy to add other folders/files. Stores all backed up items in the same folder heirachy so can be viewed/opened from the external drive, NAS drive, etc. to check they are there and/or correctly dated (i.e. for Outlook .pst files) Never failed for me in over 7 years of use. We have easily sold over 250 copies so far (not huge but proveds the point)... and the last thing we want is an unhappy customer (I hasten to add that we are an independent UK company with no real allegence )

  Cons

  I guess, like all software, you have to 'get used' to it but there really are no major cons - it works very well!

  Summary

  I/we have an issue with the bad reviews here... due to it working so well. It is strange to see the bad ones as this software is so easy to set up. They have obviously had some frustrations with it, to such an extent to have to write a bad review, but it is a shame they could not sort it!

  I do not see any pros in this software.

  Cons

  Waste of time. It does not synchronize with any folders and files automatically. Copying and pasting is faster than using this backup software. I should not waste my money on buying this external hard drive and this piece of crap.

  Summary

  Nothing works as expected. Better not to buy an Seagate external hard drive that this software comes with.

  Pros

  It is kinda pretty in an ugly sort of way.

  Cons

  It is useless in most respects, but one stands out. It is useless at restoring files when you get a new computer, the tech support is just pointless, it lacks some basic functionality like a help system that actually tells you anything, it crashes and, ohh I am sorry I said I was only going to mention one and I do not have all night.

  Summary

  It is as useless as having a single piece of Toilet Paper. Wait, you can push your finger through a single sheet and then use it to wipe your finger clean afterwards. I appologize to the TP.

  Nothing at all. You're better off just copying/pasting your own files to a backup drive.

  Cons

  Everything. Does not function as designed. Full of errors. You will get nothing but problems with this software.

  Summary

  Get any other back up software but this one.

• You're Better Off Copy/Pasting your files Manually

  You get to set up custom back up plans.

  Cons

  The software does not work as designed on Windows 7 or Windows. Full of bugs. Support team is near incompetent. Software does not always adhere to your settings. You'll have to re-do your entire back-up at least once a year, due to errors in configuration. Unable to re-activate or transfer back up plans. Program crashes regularly even when system idle.

  Summary

  Get ANY other back-up software but this one. This is coming from an IT consultant for 10 years.

  There are no pros to this software at all. Don't install. It is worthless.

  Cons

  I've tried uninstalling this software numerous times. It gives you a verification it is uninstalled, but the next time you boot up it always comes back.

  Summary

  It won't uninstall. Worthless and annoying product.

  Pros

  easy to install and begin using. never had an issue with it except for when i lost my license number. customer support was quick to respond. overall, a solid backup software.

  Cons

  auto-run at system startup, but then i don't always have to keep my device connected
