• BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS SOFTWARE

  It's fast. There's no doubt about it.

  Cons

  There is a little checkbox that says 'Erase Destination Contents'. First of all, this is the opposite of what it SHOULD do. If I want to MOVE files, doesn't it seem logical that I would want to erase the files from the SOURCE not the destination. I failed to notice this and IT PERMANENTLY DELETED MY FILES FROM THE FOLDER I WAS MOVING TO. It's a good thing I had a backup of those files because it took a lot of work for me to compile those files!

  Summary

  I would not recommend this software because it only offers one erase option. VERY DANGEROUS SOFTWARE.

  Pros

  I do a lot of testing of operating systems and backing up those large files (1 to 10GB) to external hard drive with Mass File Mover is very fast.

  Cons

  There is no help file so you need to figure things out yourself. The GUI needs working on. It's not really clear what it is doing when working, it doesn't actually say when it's done with moving/copying.

  Summary

  I use Mass File Mover (MFM) on a Vista pentium dual-core (5400 rpm) with 3GB ram to work with. My backup is located through a usb 2.0 connection in a LaCie 1TB by Neil Poultron external hard disk. The large files I move are usually .ISO (image) files of anything between 1 and 10GB in size. With MFM I can move a 1GB file in just over 1 minute, using 100 threads. The fact that you can set the amount of threads to use in MFM is it's main plus feature. MFM seems to be able to utilize multi-core systems way better than the built-in copy/move feature from Windows. Using the Windows copy feature used to give me blue screens of death allmost every time at the end of moving such a big file. With MFM I haven't had one instance of it. I can recommend Mass File Mover to anyone that knows how copying/moving files works. I don't recommend it to casual users. They could try something like Copy Handler or TeraCopy, those are great utilities aswel. Hopefully there will be a new and improved release of Mass File Mover soon !

• Fantasticly Fast - I had to double check to believe it!

  Pros

  Blindingly fast. 15gig image folder moved in 15 secs (30 threads set). Several of these - head scratching - couldn't believe it possible. But all copied and correct. A really smart bit of .net coding - leaves explorer for dead!!!!!! Amazing.

  Cons

  GUI not quite right on mine - can't see all the digits when setting threads. Don't know how it would go on single core. [I'm running PHenomII x4 945] Needs feedback/progress meter.

  Summary

  Just really pissed with slow Win Explorer file copying/moving and needed to shift 500gig of backup images for 8 machines. TerraCopy was better than WinExploder and good options, but still too slow. I'd switched everything off I didn't need and ran bare-bones - but still watching paint dry. I'v got powerful gear and I find this aspect of Win ridiculous. I noted a lot of good software coded with dotnet and gave this a try for that reason. I'd used DriveImageXML to create all my backup images and the architecture looked similar - DIxml will create a 25gig sys image backup in just a few minutes! There's no info on how many threads you can set with this program, but the more you set the faster it runs. For example; shifting 15 x 667MB files with only 12 threads was slow - 12 moved in a flash but the last three were no better than WinExploder. When I set 15 threads for 15 667MB files, it shifted them in a few seconds - WOW!!! So fast, it really was hard to accept it was done. If I set more threads than I needed, everything moved "en-masse" - it sure is named right - Mass - Mover!! I have good power (4 cores @ 4gigHz and 4 gig of 1200DDR2) and used one thread for each 667MB block - went to 50 threads for one image. There's no help file so you have to work it out yourself. No doubt more options will come with later releases, as well as some kinetics to tell you what's happening. It copies folder contents but not the folder itself - I had to recreate these - maybe there's a way, but I couldn't find it. Once you're happy it's all done, you can delete the originals and free up the space. So it copies - not "moves" as such, but it does this so fast that creating new folders and cleaning up afterwards is no chore - a pleasure in fact and done with a smile!! Nothing I've EVER used copies as fast as this baby - it's mind boggling fast!!! And if you have no real use for it, just running it for fun is worth the effort. I'll use it some more on other gear - some less powerful - and maybe post again. In the meantime maybe the people at MariusSoft will write up a but more user info to help the non-tech users. This has to be the most productive, time-saving bit of FRE!!! software I've ever clapped eyes on and found a real use for - I'd gladly pay for it if it was a bit more polished up on GUI and Kinetics - nah......... even as it is, I'd pay - it's that good!! I can't figure why this MASSIVELY FAST mass-mover isn't taking off big time &#38; more downloads. I've just copied 4 25 gig system backups over my home network to the backup database drive. The task was all done and dusted in 5 minutes - this was over the local network!! I'm still scratching my head to understand HOW ti does this. Mariusoft are terribly shy at explaining it.After putting up with Windows Exploder for so long, It just seems so revolutionary, I can't figure more people are trying it and being as amazed as I am!!?? Either that or I've just crawled out of the dark ages and it's all ho-hum to everybody else. This thing blows me away!! I wish someone else would try and write it up! Come on geeks - tell me I'm crazy!
