Editors’ Review
Quickly and painlessly check your hard drive for errors with this simple tool, but don't expect to get detailed information about what it's looking for. Hard Drive Test Pilot's small interface uses more space for a photo of a hard drive than for program display. However, it is very easy to set and start. Grab a single drive from a pull-down and you're on your way.
The program is incredibly speedy when checking the hard drive for internal errors. The publisher neglects to inform users what errors it's looking for, but both Master Boot Records and individual files are listed as tested. The program also claims to scan files for select viruses, but found none on our test drives. We had similar concerns with tests for Port Setting and BIOS errors. We simply didn't see what the application attempts to find. The program includes a mention of specific virus and error libraries. However, no mention is made of how and how often the libraries are updated.
COM posts and LPT ports are also tested for errors with the touch of a pull-down. Our tests showed Hard Drive Test Pilot is certainly quick, but without better documentation most users will want to skip this demoware.
