GParted Live lets Windows users take advantage of the powerful features of the Linux-based GNOME Partition Editor, aka GParted. It runs at boot, so you must unzip the software's ISO file and burn it to CD (or similar discs) to use it. You don't need to know Linux to use GParted Live, thanks to its graphical interface, extensive manuals, and the sort of support only available with open-source freeware.

Pros

Powerful: You must boot from a CD or similar source to manage your main drive or other drives Windows needs when running. GParted Live's graphical interface makes the process seem more familiar.

USB, HDD: GParted Live can be installed and run from a CD or similar optical discs, but it can also run from a USB drive, PXE server, or hard disk (with helper apps). Instructions for each (and creating GParted apps from scratch, too) are available online.

Manuals and more: The GParted home site offers many resources, including installation and usage manuals, lists of available boot parameters, forums, and guides to included graphical and command-line utilities.

Cons

Backup: Take a full backup capable of completely restoring your computer before using GParted Live on your main hard drive. No excuses!

Dangerous: In inexperienced hands, GParted Live can do serious harm (see above).

Bottom Line

GParted Live puts powerful capabilities at the advanced user's fingertips. Users unfamiliar with managing disc partitions or booting outside Windows should start with one of the excellent freeware partition managers for Windows-based computers.

Pros
Free. Reputedly very powerful and easy to use (I can't tell).
Cons
I followed the instructions very carefully, twice. The resulting .iso image CDs would not boot on any of my 4 computers. I have had no trouble with bootable .iso CDs in the past which strongly suggests this software is the problem. To those who insist that the software is not at fault, Google it and look at how many people out there are reporting the same problem.
Summary
By all means try it, but use a CD-RW. That way you won't waste a CD-R if it doesn't work. Good luck.

1- detailed partitioning features 2- diverse file systems 3- repair functions 4- easily recognize installed disks (some windows based apps failed to do the same)
Cons
1- difficult for beginners to use 2- difficult to prepare startup media; needs to be burned to CD or USB using embedded utilities
Summary
I recommend this for desperate experts who need stand alone application on a bootable CD/ USB

Summary
Burned it to both CD and to USB Flash Drive. Both versions failed to boot. I could not make either one work, nor any of the other versions of GParted that I have tried, from either Windows 7&8 or Linux Mint 13 (Which booted from USB without any problems.) Everyone talks up GParted, but I have experienced nothing but frustration with it as it constantly fails to boot or load.

Pros
Very easy to use! This is full of features. You can do just about anything that deals with partitions with this Live CD. Some of the features I use most often are Create Partition, Re-size (Extend/Shrink) Partition, Delete Partition, Change Partition Label, Format Partition (to just about any file format from FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, to Ext3, Ext4, or even HFS, Btrfs, etc.), and change the mount point or set flags to partitions. You can even move partitions or clone them if you so desire. This is the only tool you'll ever need.

BE VERY CAREFUL!!! If you don't know what you're doing or what it means to edit partitions, DO NOT use this or any other partition tool as they could completely destroy all of your data/operating system. You have been warned.

I had used this before however this one seems useless.
Cons
GParted LiveCD 0.12.0-5 from Download.com says "This ISO" however it is a "ZIP" file with folders and files in it. Not a single "ISO" file in it. If it is expanded and an "ISO" is made from it it does not boot with VirtualBox while all other bootable ISO's do work. Quite useless. The ISO from Sourceforge boots and asks for a login which is not in the documentation nor is it anywhere on the internet making this one also useless.

1. Has all the important features you'd need: make, resize, format, change type (ntfs, ext3, fat32 etc), primary and logical disks, cluster size, make multiple partitions on one disk, etc., etc. 2. It's free!

If you multi boot then this is worth a go as it just works. The live cd boots rapidly and requires little resources yet provides a pleasant graphic interface thats easy to use. It rarely fails to boot or not recognize hardware, any problems i had was with the hardware being dead and not with the program. As the previous reviewer said its not really suited to people who dont do this often or limited knowledge. However if you are a tech then its a must have.
Has done everything I required of it.

It partitions disks. I've used it many times. No problems. Can't beat the price.

I honestly can't think of any. It does what it purports to do, and for free.
Summary
Why is this listed as Windows software? This is not windows software. I haven't touched a windows machine in a decade (lucky me!). This is a live system built on a gnu/linux kernel. It partitions disks. Does a great job. Further, it IS easy to use. (I don't get the "not for the faint of heart" caveat. I've never seen a simpler partition tool.)
