GearTrain calculates the angular velocity and direction of the final driven gear within a gear chain. It streamlines calculations for educators and students by processing RPM and tooth counts for complex gear series.
  • Pros

    • Calculates both RPM and rotation direction for the final gear
    • Supports multi-gear series calculations based on individual tooth counts
    • Simple input interface for initial driver gear speed and direction
    • Reliable validation tool for robotics and technology education curricula
    • Streamlined workflow for checking complex gear chain mechanical calculations
  • Cons

    • Limited to calculating linear gear chains without complex planetary systems
    • Lacks graphical visualization of the gear train components
    • No built-in database for standard gear pitch or material properties
    • Focuses exclusively on angular velocity rather than torque or efficiency
    • Does not provide step-by-step mathematical derivations of the results

Developer’s Description

Calculate angular velocity of final driven gear in gear chain.

GearTrain calculates the angular velocity of the final driven gear in a gear chain. The user enters the revolutions per minute and driection of the first driver gear along with information about the number of teeth of each gear in the series. The program will output the RPM and direction of the final driven gear in the gear train. It was designed as a tool for educators and students wishing to learn or check calculations for a gear chain in a Technology Education or Robotics program.
