This application allows you to configure your PC's operational settings for a single computer or over a network, but some limitations hinder its effectiveness. Free Shutdown Master lets you schedule your system shutdown, restart, log off, and stand by, and thereafter each function is performed by date and time or is executable with a double-click of your mouse. You can set the program to deliver an alert and to allow a grace period before rendering the system inoperable. Although this is a fairly small program, it must be installed, unlike many in its class. Its IP-scanner capability is relatively minimal, as it only works with Windows. On a high note, you'll be able to erase a few tracks with this application; however, the online-tracks removal is limited to Internet Explorer. The program deletes caches, cookies, temporary files, and your Recent Documents list and dumps your Recycle Bin before shutting down. Though Shutdown Master is limited in scope, system administrators will find this free utility helpful at controlling PC use.

Not a Bad Shutdown Program

Pros
I used this when my computer stopped responding to standby and hibernate commands in the shutdown prompt. It was easy to install and I was able to use the "hibernate" command with no problems. It also uninstalled smoothly.
Cons
Now and then I received popups directing me to the company's website, which I believe is no longer running. I also wasn't able to find a "standby" feature. Overall, not bad if you simply want a shutdown program, but I decided to go with Smart Shutdown which has a lot of features and works with "standby."
