File Synchronizer is a simple utility that allows users to synchronize the contents of files or drives. It's not the most intuitive program we've ever used, but it does seem to work effectively.

The program loses points for its interface, which is virtually impossible to figure out without consulting the online Help file. All of the program's features are organized in a column down the middle of the interface, which divides the two volumes that are going to be synchronized. Once we'd reviewed the Help file, it was easy enough to choose the two folders we wanted to synchronize and have the program analyze and synchronize them. The program offers several options for synchronization, including moving all files in the first folder to the second folder or vice versa, or synchronizing all the files between both folders. Users can also clone folders or have the program synchronize based on the relative age or size of files. Overall, we found the program quite easy to use once we got familiar with the way the interface was arranged. We do wish that the program was a little more intuitive, but in general we felt that it combined several useful features in a way that was not terribly difficult to understand.

File Synchronizer is free. It comes as a ZIP file and installs desktop icons without asking, but it uninstalls cleanly. We recommend this program to all users seeking a simple way to synchronize files.

DANGEROUS and RISKY

Good interface, fast, easy to use
Cons
Skips files without giving any error message. Gives false message about successful synchronization.
Summary
Gives a false sense of security. Skips files if the destination disk is full and DOES NOT GIVE ANY ERROR MESSAGE. In fact it says "Folders in Sync"!!. Here is the reply that I got from Latshaw when I reported this bug: "That is done on purpose as it is a free program. If it reported every error on every file problem it encountered, we'd be answering emails all day long. The program has been downloaded over 100,000 times so you can imagine why we do this."
This was exactly the product I was looking for...and for free!

Pros
I have 2 hard drives that contained some of the same music, but a lot was different. I needed something to help ensure I had the same music on both drives. File Synchronizer first analyzed the music folders on both drives and then in two separate columns told me which files were newer or didn't exist in the other folder. Then I told it to synchronize and...presto, two identical drives with all of my music! Perfect.
Cons
I should have know better, but I did something the app didn't like. After analyzing both drives with FS and leaving the program running, I deleted one of the files detected using Win Explorer. When I went back to FS and tried to remove the now deleted file, it locked up on me. However, I closed FS and restarted it, now somewhat wiser, and never had a problem since.

Pros
I once had to backup my files before I formatted my Windows drive at times where using the computer was IMPOSSIBLE. Frankly now I'm able to use this solution for syncronizing data between two locations on my computer.
Cons
The only problem I found in the program as that it doesn't synchronize the subdirectories within that selected folder...
