FFT stands for Find Files Time. It's a free tool that shows when files in a folder are modified with a high degree of specificity and accuracy. Users can view which files were modified and when in days, hours, minutes, and seconds, or search for files based on when they were modified. You can also use it like a fast file counter. It's portable freeware that requires no installation, but it does require Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or higher, which isn't a problem for Vista and Windows 7 users.

We extracted FFT's compact executable and clicked it, which immediately opened the program's plain but efficient interface. The toolbar included file counters for Found, Total, and Time data, as well as individual counters for days, hours, minutes, and seconds for tracking Modified Files. We clicked the button labeled Folder and browsed to an archive, and then clicked the Find button. FFT quickly analyzed the folder and displayed the results in the toolbar as well as in the main window. We could highlight any file displayed in the main window and open it in Explorer, a useful function. The search data showed total files, modified files, and the total search time in hours, minutes, and seconds to three decimal places. Clicking Options opened a properties dialog that let us configure the Files and Folders filter as well as select miscellaneous options such as excluding the time filter, showing the current search folder, and showing attributes in listings.

This simple, free tool performs a useful function, and it does its job not only well but also very quickly. For finding recently modified files in large archives, it's just the thing. Since it's completely portable, it's a great addition to your USB toolkit, too.

Developer’s Description

View the most recently modified files in a specified directory.
Lists the most recently modified files in a selected folder ("My Documents" folder by default). For example, after a Windows startup, this program is useful to list the modified files in a system folder. Select a folder: you can use the "Folder" button or the "Current search folder" textbox; choose a time (1 hour by default) and run search with the "Find" button. The list of the found files is sorted by name and by time. A double-click in the listing selects the current line and opens the folder containing the name of the file. The "Options" button opens FFT options (files and folder filter, attributes filter, show current search folder. ). If you choose the "file/folder counter" option, you can use FFT like a fast file counter. This program works with all version of Windows. If your system is Windows XP or older, it requires the Microsoft. NET Framework version 2.0 or higher.
