Farm Manager was created to speed up logins and make the user experience the same regardless of the login. Successfully implemented Farm Manager can be used to maintain the farm and to live monitor environments. Typically the logins using hybrid profiles and environment changes should be less than 15 seconds, typically less than 10 and ideally less than 5. Different policies can be used depending on the need for silo'd servers, desktop computers, however with the environment management part you may not need to have silo'd servers.
