Although its name defines its limits and usefulness, this freeware does what it does very well. Extension Renamer's comprehensible functions will suit any user even without a help file, although file-filtering instructions are available within the interface. In our tests the program quickly changed any file extension from within a selected folder to any new extension of our choice. With this freeware, you can easily control access to your personal files by renaming them to unknown file types. Since this application only changes file extensions and doesn't convert the actual file, its value is limited. Nonetheless, any user will still find the no-cost Extension Renamer worth keeping.
didn't download program, but has 6 add-on substitutes!
glegipon
Pros
couldn't find one. thought I was downloading a file extension renaming program. could be that it didn't show up because i'm on windows 7 and that I just saw a bunch of add-ons
Cons
2 toolbars, my homepage reset, tried to download real player, update adobe flash, and Microsoft security essentials warned of 2 viruses running on the computer. wth cnet!
Summary
in summary, blah! I can't be the only one with this download. please verify my failure.
Does EXACTLY What It Claims To Do
khamma
Pros
Easy to figure out. Easy to use. Does a quick and accurate job.
Cons
No Cons. None.
Summary
This is just what I was looking for - something to rename groups of files. I have a need to change the extensions of files. So - that's what I was looking for. I downloaded several batch renamers but couldn't figure out how to do this one thing. Then I tried this little gem and had it all done in about 30 seconds. Once the job is done, a before and after shot give you the opportunity to undo.
A great little program.
not worth the download
gs121432
Pros
didn't use it
Cons
It requires a version of .net to run. I had a version higher than what was asked for but it wanted me to download a different version.
Summary
Did not use it. For bulk renaming just revert back to DOS, go to the directory in a CMD window and type ren *.xxx *.xxx works fine for what I needed.
HTH
Does not work. Errors when trying to use it.
CCCP721
Pros
there are no pros, only promises
Cons
It is not operational. It says "cannot create files because the files already exist," and does not convert anything.
Summary
Does exactly what it says -- changes file extensions
rexworld
Pros
Straightforward interface
Cons
doesn't let you input a path with a text box, you have to navigate with the UI to the path each time
Summary
Does exactly what you'd expect -- renames the extensions of a group of files. I do wish it let you input a folder path with a text box, it's tedious to have to navigate thru the folder UI each time to the correct folder.
Very good product
hokies09
Pros
Very feature rich
Cons
UI needs some work
Summary
Best bulk renamer I've seen
Worked fine. Does exactly what it says. Renames.
johnbamford
Pros
Converted most files quickly.
Cons
Missed a few files which I had to do manually.
Summary
Clear, simple program. Probably never need again but good for what it's intended for....renaming NOT converting.
It does what it's name says!!! It's NOT a converter.
stealle
Pros
It is great for renaming .m4v to .mp4 or vice versa. Or .xls to .txt and many others. If your files need converted then you need to use something else.
Cons
None. It is unfortunate the people are giving this poor reviews because it can not "convert". It says right in the description that it does not convert.
Summary
This is a superb file extension RENAMER. That's all it does. You use this utility when you have multiple files to rename. It will literally RENAME hundreds of file extensions in just seconds.
Not a Virus, just a bad program
NekoMimi2009
Pros
It installed... I guess that is a pro... Not much else though...
Cons
I tried to rename a batch of .bmp to .jpg for a friend's digital photo frame and all I got were error codes.
Didn't convert a single file...
Rename any file extension without changing the content of the file. This application is intended for the purpose of batch renaming of file extensions. This can be achieved with any file extension and can be changed from anything to anything. Its primary function was for renaming the files that Imscan produces into TIFF files. Note that it is not a file converter. It will not change the contents of a file; merely rename the extension, so only files' types that will accept extension changes can be manipulated.
