A significant bug and an odd response by the programmer
cabhanlistis- Pros
- Fast and convenient.
- Cons
- Skips hidden folders, but handles hidden files. Why? I can't say and the program's author apparently doesn't care. Nor can I find a reference to this anywhere on his site, so it's an important design issue that is not obvious.
- Summary
- Version 1.0.0.3 fixes a bug that, according to the developer, had hidden files not getting scanned. However, I discovered that it wasn't including hidden folders. When I reported this on his blog, at first Brandon acknowledged the situation by telling me that this was by design. When I pointed out how this program behavior is not obvious (since it's not explained in the instructions) and with no way to adjust a setting for this, Brandon reacted by deleting my comments rather than addressing or simply ignoring it. So, if you have any hidden folders that you want to verify, you'll either have to change that property for each hidden folder or skip them entirely. As long as you don't have hidden folders to verify, this program works great. But based on the programmer's behavior and this odd design, I can't recommend this software. This is unfortunate because it would otherwise be an excellent program. I will continue using it, but now I have to go through everything looking for hidden folders.
Wonderful Software
drummajor_dn- Pros
- Ease of use. Stability. Ability to create MD5 (or many other method) Test File Applet for inclusion with files. Easily create .md5 file for a folder, which is automatically placed in the folder.
- Cons
- Single file .md5 not automatically placed in the file's folder. No right-click shell integration to create .md5 and .sfv for file or folder like hkSFV.
- Summary
- Other than the cons above, which could be added by the developer, I think this beats the heck out of anything else out there.
