  Pretty much like Eudora of days past, but much less stable!

  Cons

  Changes font size while writing, seemingly at random. Ghost messages show up after deletion I've had a couple just disappear too (even deleted from server) Smart folders often lose messages and you have to switch to regular folders to get the messages to reappear. Today's issue is that I can't seem to compose any mail. New mail message windows aren't allowing me to input any text in the message body area. Overall pretty damned clunky.

  It uses some of the same icons from Eudora. Scary but that is the only good thing to say about this.

  If like me you loved Eudora and were disappointed when Qualcomm dropped support, don't waste your time on this. There is no hiding that this is a thinly veiled version of Thunderbird. It's like buying knockoff watches. It kinda looks like the real thing, but it doesn't work as well and you know it can't last. It's still cheap crap trying to look good.

  Pros

  Retains old mailbox structure, very flexible message filtering, very easy to configure, multiple servers are no problem. Retains much of the "feel" that made Eudora an email standard for many years.

  Cons

  Not as fast as pre-OSE v7.1 in some key ways, sluggish, a kluge of macros over Thunderbird. Lost the old, easily backed-up *nix-based mail files. Attachments are more trouble to deal with than when they went automatically to a configurable attachments folder. Notifications are much less flexible than with v7.1 (e.g. can't play unique sounds for mail coming in from different people, personal vs business, etc.). Seems to be no longer developed, adding some risk of sudden incompatibility with new protocols etc. if email is crucial to what you do.

  Summary

  The "feel" of Eudora OSE nicely mimics that of the Eudora I grew accustomed to for years, ever since its earliest versions. Eudora OSE also keeps nearly all of the most useful features of pre-OSE version 7.1. Most importantly, it keeps the old, familiar, highly configurable filter functions that send mail to anyplace you want in a directory tree type of mailbox structure. That's all good. However, OSE lost some of the features I had grown to depend on in Eudora. The one I miss the most is the ability to assign distinctive sound notifications for different correspondents. As a local mail client it also feels sluggish compared to v7.1, probably because it is kluge of macros tweaked to the gills to layer Eudora's efficient email-handling strategy over Thunderbird's very different client approach. Also, OSE hasn't been updated since 2010, so I suspect it is no longer actually being developed. It works okay in Windows 7 but only claims compatibility up to Vista, which does not inspire confidence in its continuing compatibility as protocols evolve. At this point I'm considering whether to revert to v7.1 (is that even possible, given the completely different mail file structures?) or to reluctantly give it up as a lost cause and move to the labels-not-mailboxes approach of web mail and its local-client mimics (which is how Thunderbird feels to me). A friend uses Firefox for the extensions but Chrome as a fast, unencumbered Gmail client. He says the tactic works great. Or I might try a different client like Postbox. Eudora OSE keeps getting longer in the tooth and may have hit a dead end, I'm sad to say. It feels like the kluge of macros that it is, like at any time it might start to dodder like me. Okay, I'm stuck with me, and I don't want to trade in my wife, but I can move to a different email client. Soon. Maybe. I don't recommend committing to Eudora OSE at this point. It still does the job for me but only because it's a habit.

• Do Not Bother if you prefer Eudora

  This is just another Thunderbird with a name change. Actually INSULTING the REAL Eudora. Eudora allowed several installation on one hardrive without logging on and off. Each user had its own folder with its own name and folders. Easy access to attachments and embedded files. All I had to do was open My Computer, click on my C drive and there was each persons Eudora email folder. When I installed this program it attached itself to Thunderbird user info and files, when all I wanted was another independent email program NOT affiliated with another.

  Summary

  I can easily copy my named OLD Eudora email client for each user to a USB Stick and transfer each email folder to my laptop, keeping each persons email separate from the others and off I go. That was extremely important.

• An improvement over Outlook 2010

  Stable, fast and powerful. Custom settings easy to perform.

  Global search indexing is slow. May want to use Windows searching feature, instead.

  Summary

  Dumped Outlook 2010 in favor of Eudora OSE. Outlook was difficult to use and understand. Oftentimes, when downloading message in Outlook kept receiving error messages that could only be corrected by right-clicking the message and clicking on the download message option. Additionally, the reading pane in Outlook was resetting the program. Now using Eudora OSE and the problems experienced with Outlook are gone! This is the alternative email program to use when you are having problems with other email programs. Others who complain about Eudora OSE are having problems with their poorly- configured computers. Eudora OSE is a very powerful and stable email program when used by competent computer users.

  Pros

  Auto Configuruation - most of the time. Config is easy and very straight forward and doesn't ask a lot of stupid questions that most non-guru's can't answer anyhow

  Some condemn it, but I think it is a good sotftware and definitely worth using nad/or at least trying - you may actually like it!

  Pros

  It works, to send and receive email. Seamless import of Outlook Express data and settings.

  Cons

  Clumsy, lots of redundancies, some setting are only conditionally applied, overyly busy, seems to have been authored in separate places by people who didn't talk to each other. Few if any direct, immediate functions. Can't make closed read messages return dynamically to intray. No need for the tray icons between trash and actual functions.

  Summary

  It's more like Thunderbird than Eudora, thus makes me wonder why it was even undertaken. If Eudora is to disappear, why not a third party use the Outlok Express architecture rather than that of Thunderbird (purely for the sake of OS inclusion)

  Ordinary email client with usual features and problems

  I have tried Eudora OSE from time to time. Just installed it again to give it another try. A disappointment: some features don't work (display lines in mailbox, my old filters) and not as customizable as I want my next client to be.

  Summary

  I liked the look and feel of Eudora 7.1 and will give that up only when I have an email client I can truly customize. So I will not choose a new program that has ugly icons on the mail toolbar, resists efforts for me to display test or text and icons instead, resists the selection of "show lines in mailboxes", and otherwise is just a pain to work with.. Help, that takes you online, yields a waste of time.
