"Free to try" is not really true. As soon as you open the program you're brought to webpage that is asking you to pay. If you ignore that then there's this huge wall of text in the middle of the screen, which makes it impossible to actually watch anything. This explains why there's such a discrepancy between the editor review and the user review. Oh, and the fact that many people are claiming this program installed extra programs on their computers. Stay far away from this scam; I don't know why the editors promoted it.

However that is not why i wanted to try this particular player out. It's because i am looking for a player that also is able to play HD-DVD's. And even though Easy DVD player does it it does so in a rather disappointing way.

After downloading the trial version i tested it out and it did seem to be able to read HD-DVD's and play them, but unfortunately i ran in too many problem with it.
First of there doesn't seem to be any interface control unlike with DVD or Bluray playback so it is pretty much impossible to navigate your way through the menu to start a movie, that is if you are even able to get that far. Most of the discs that i tried did start up but the only thing i got were colors and no sound. A few other movies started with trailers first, which i was able to skip, but then i landed straight in the extra features after that. Skipping them with next or forward only gave me more. Again, i didn't have any control other than stop, play, pause, forward and reverse.
One out of the five movies i tried did start up in to the main menu but because i couldn't navigate through it or click on anything i had to sit it out in hope that it would start the movie eventually without looping the menu. It didn't loop but it did go in to the extra features. So in short, don't buy this if you want to play HD-DVD. It does a poor job at it.
Also, the software was prone to crashing if i didn't close the whole thing before i would eject a disc.
