A vital part of Windows installation or re-installation

- Driver management is one of the weakest parts of Windows, and faulty or missing drivers can be fatal to a Windows installation, and very time consuming to resolve. Using this software ( correctly ) makes a fresh Windows 7 install very straightforward.
- Cons
- One can use this software to save a full list of all the drivers currently on a PC, so that even if the restore function were to fail for one or more you still have the necessary information to install the missing drivers manually from the manufacturers CD or web site. On this basis i can find no Cons.
- Summary
- When downloading first disable any download manager in your browser and save direct to your Downloads folder. Unzip the file and save the resulting folder to an accessible Driver Backup folder - NOT in the C: drive to be re-installed. Run dd.exe ( as Administrator ), select Backup and back up the drivers. Also Save the list in case needed. After re-installing Windows and running the updates until complete, restore the drivers by running dd.exe again and this time select Restore and browse to the Driver Backup folder. Select the drivers to be restored and go. You will need to click "Install anyway" if Windows is unable to verify any driver. Note - this method differs from RayTech's but worked well for me. All drivers restored okay on a Windows 7 64 bit system. The system did NOT recognize all of the attached hardware and it would probably have been very difficult to resolve this issue manually - so this software was a life saver. Once all drivers were installed I did choose to update some of them online in Driver Manager\....\Driver tab and with the older driver already installed this was very easy

- Install the same version of operating system you are pulling the drivers from: not doing so may cause unpredictable results (in other words, if you are pulling the drivers from an XP system do not expect them to work on a Windows 8 system)... if you are trying to get a different version of Windows updated with drivers, go to the website of your computer manufacturer and get them from there. Double Driver cannot "magically" get the right drivers for a different operating system unlike some of the reviewers state on this board. Download DoubleDriver: Scan your system then save the files to a USB stick. Pop it into a freshly installed Windows setup and go to Device Manager. Right click each of the unloaded driver components and tell it to "update". Have it search the USB stick, including subdirectories.

- It would be nice if it could find the latest drivers, but that's a bit much to ask for a free program that works PERFECTLY. Ignore the idiots who cannot run PCs that gave this a review: they are brainless.
- Summary
- Use Double Driver to kick start a system Windows installation that is not running properly due to incorrect drivers. If you are wanting to reinstall Windows, back up your drivers with this utility, then install a fresh copy and import the drivers through Device Manager. Works like a charm!

- Used this inutility to back up drivers from toshiba R200 to another identical R200. At restore time the inutility kept asking for missing files. Idiot!c BS, useless pile of worthless time-wasting junk. What genius coded this sad joke of a program? Sometimes would be best some programmers would spend time to go base jumping without a rope and do us all a favor instead of putting together a pile of codung. Do it right or don't do it at all. Save your time and avoid headaches. Stay away from this cr4p and try some other program that might actually work.
