Developer's Description
DocuSAFE helps victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence document the technology abuse, harassment, and stalking they are experiencing. Survivors can document abuse by logging individual incidents, including any photos, screenshots, or video documentation of threatening messages, harassing social media posts, unwanted repeat calls, or online impersonation, among other abusive behaviors.
By storing documentation of abuse in one central location, survivors can more easily identify the abuse that is occurring and the extent to which it is occurring, including possible escalation of the behaviors. While not all survivors may choose to pursue legal action against the abusive person, for those who do, this app may be used to document and store evidence of the abuse that can be transferred to law enforcement or a judge during a legal proceeding. The app provides options for sharing the content if the survivor chooses to. A PIN to secure the content will be required.
This app was created by the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), with funding from the Office on Victims of Crime (OVC).
Limitations of the App: This app is intended to be a tool in the documentation process and cannot predict or assess for the abuse you may be experiencing. What documentation will be accepted in court may vary by jurisdiction. Its important to talk to a local attorney, law enforcement, or an advocate if you are hoping to use the documentation in a legal case.
Safety Notes:
If you think your device(s) could be monitored by someone looking through your phone or accessing it remotely, having this type of resource on your phone may be a safety risk. Consider not downloading this app onto that device.
This app will also require that it be connected to your Google account to protect the documentation from being lost or destroyed. This may not be a safe option for everyone. Please determine what is safe for you in deciding whether or not to use this app.
You can download this app onto a device that isnt being monitored and access more information about technology abuse at TechSafety.org.
