Koshy John's DiskMax is a basic but effective (and free) system cleaning tool with some advantages. For example, it walks you step-by-step through each cleaning stage, explaining what it's about to remove and even warning you when caution is advised (like when you're about to delete your stored passwords). Of course, DiskMax cleans your browsers, caches, and temporary files, but it also targets things other tools don't, such as old Windows Updates and Event Logs, and it has an SSD-safe disk defragmenter. It remembers your choices, so the next time you run it, DiskMax does it all.

DiskMax detected our 64-bit Windows installation and shifted to the appropriate installer, and it checked for updates (with our permission) the first time we ran it. Aside from some social media links (and a "Donate" button) DiskMax offers four scan buttons: "Quick," "Standard," "Detailed," and "Complete," plus a check box to clear saved preferences. With security tools, we usually start with a full scan, but with system cleaners it's better to start small and work your way up, so we clicked "Q" to initiate DiskMax's Quick scan, which targets the Recycle Bin, browsers, and caches. DiskMax gives good advice in general, strongly recommending the safest or best course of action. DiskMax offers to clear all your Firefox or Chrome data since it clears cookies, saved forms, and passwords, but we recommend clicking "No" and dealing with each stage, individually. DiskMax adds more cleaning options through the Standard, Detailed, and Complete scans, each of which replicates some of the other scans' options. We had to run through the same basic steps each time we moved up to the next scan, but only while DiskMax set our preferences. Subsequent scans were quicker. DiskMax also optimized our disks. The Deep Scan tool is only recommended after you've read DiskMax's Help file.

DiskMax is fast, safe, and effective, both in daily cleaning and for less-frequent, deeper cleaning. Plus it's free. It's a worthy addition to your menu of system utilities.

It did everthing I wanted it to.I like it better than CCleaner.The only way anyone could get any extra unwanted download promotions is if they don't pay attention and uncheck things and that makes it their fault,not just on this download but every download.

There is one very BIG PROBLEM. It installed Babylon Toolbar DLL's and that is not part of the deal. I did not see anywhere when installing advising that Babylon Toolbar was to be installed or it' DLL's either so I am not very trust worthy of this software. Who knows, maybe when up-dating it just might be that the missing files for Babylon Toolbar just might be installed with the up-date. Who knows what else can happen... I'm just saying so I'm not taking any risk so I am uninstalling this tool after I finish this review. Sorry Diskmax... nice tool but very poor "surprise" included in the installation.

Thorough cleaning of specified items. Fast. Does not appear to strip away away anything essentia, unlike CCleaner, if carefully checked off what to remove.

Watch installation carefully, do not check anything that would otherwise remove data.

Like almost an all-in-one cleaner, but differently operating.

VPS and cloud server space usually charge by the GB, and previous generations of windows (Vista/7/2003/2008) take up 15-20GB of space. With a 25 or 30 GB hard drive, that's not a lot to work with, even with just a few apps running. With Win 2008 R2 64 bit enterprise, I was able to recovre about 5 GB of space on my first run of a deep scan (Microsoft, what the heck are you installing there). Subsequent cleans can recover 300-1000MB of space. I'm guessing that windows updates leave around too much data?

The author does collect usage data. But mainly because he does not get too much manual feedback. There has to be a way for the author to actually maintain the software for free, so it is a tradeoff. The information does not identify you personally anyway, but maybe the author can have a paid version where users could disable this?
Summary
Until windows 8, programs are allowed to install insane amounts of bloatware, and microsoft is largely to blame for starting the bloatware practice themselves. This program does remove unused and unneeded files to keep your system running lean. Simple, straightforward. I gave the author a donation.
Small and Powerfull

Small install size. Many cleaning steps to scrub your HDD of clutter. Defrags & Optimizes Precache. 32 and 64 bit versions. Has deep clean option. Does what it claims it will do.
Cons
Biggest con is installs to user folder only. Even if I grab the exe from the installed folder, it will replace itself on my C drive user folder. To dev, always give install location options. Not portable, even though it is just an exe with one folder after install.
Summary
Just another great tool to keep handy with the arsenal of other tools we all use to clean our dirty registry, temp folders, and files left from general use and lazy programs that don't uninstall fully.
