very bad sound

Sound input from mic on computer only; you can't use an external mic. There is background noise that is very aggravating. This is the only program that gives me this particular problem. Brand new Windows 8.1 HP computer. The app is available from Windows download, but I can't recommend it until this sound problem is fixed.
