Preserve the layout and position of icons and programs on the Desktop.

This tiny application operates as a Shell extension. It records the layout and positions of icons and programs on the Windows Desktop, and permits restoration of the layout. It appears to operate correctly under Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

I wrote this program after severe frustration of having my layout trashed every time I switched screen resolutions. Sometimes other programs will switch screen size and trash your layout as well. This program is an answer to this problem, and I thought other people might find it useful too.

Does what it says it will do, but beware of malware in the software!!!

I carefully selected DECLINE on all the "special offers" and my browsers were still hijacked by TROVI SEARCH. Now I'm spending my time trying to remove this junkware from my work computer!

The utility itself is nice and seems to work as advertised

The installer attempts to install SEVERAL forms of unnecessary and irrelevant CRAPWARE and SPYWARE, including "Conduit Search Protect" (which is so malicious that many antivirus programs clobber it) and other such shady crapware not listed in the project description. If you are very careful you can decline installing this unnecessary garbage during installation, but the casual user not reading the fine print will infect his system with all this unwanted malware.
Summary
Installer should not include this irrelevant crap at all. It makes me question the legitimacy and trustworthiness of this shell extension.

For months I've been looking for a solution to an annoying bug that resets my desktop settings every time I restart Windows 7. Despite this having been developed a number of years ago, it still does the trick. I do still have to reset my multi-monitor configuration when Windows restarts, but at least this saves my icon placements so I can restore them afterwards. Thanks!
