This simple application lets you easily change the extension of a single file or multiple files within a folder, though it offers little else in the way of features or capabilities. Extension Changer offers two ways to change file extensions. Open the program and drag and drop files or folders into a small inset box under the Main tab, fill in the new extension, and press Change. The easier method is to right-click on files and folders and select Edit the extension. Your document or folder is already displayed and you need only type the new extension. Changes were immediately applied. Desktop and Start menu shortcuts aren't automatically added, but since the program is so easily available when it's needed, this isn't a problem. A simple tool is offered to search for more information on extensions. This utility is easy to use, does exactly what it says, and is offered free of charge.

It does change the "written" file extension,

Does not really accomplish anything.
Cons
It does indeed change the file extension visually, however other programs do not recognize the extension as a valid format. (ex.) I wanted to change several .png files to .gif, in order to make an animated .gif file. I tried 4 different programs, neither recognized the file as a .gif.

simple and intuitive just mark a block of files and drag them to the program window file endings can be entered as wished (i.e. jpg.bmp)

not well explained - needs some trial and error until you know how to get exactly what you need as mentioned in a review above, if you enter a dot before your ending, your result will have 2 dots does not install link to start menu only to desktop - has to be manually moved closes after each job

only changes the extension, but that is exactly what i need. the problems were quickly apparent and easily avoided. after that, the program reliably gave me the results i needed. despite the problems the program has, i give it 5 stars in anticipation of all the work it will save me in the future! 1. misleading prompts (e.g. looking at .* you might think is wants you to enter .doc for example, where in fact it is just doc) 2. Impossible to cancel (other than answering to a yes/no window for every single file . Well , I had 1000 files to rename and had to hit damn button 1000 times ? Try it and you start to hate this small beauty in 2 min)

Room for improvements. Don'r expect too much from the program. It's not a product yet

Pros
I found this simple to install and use. I needed to change the file extension on multiple pictures, from jpeg to jpg and just by blocking and dragging multiple pictures to the '.exe' program, I had the job done. Previously I changed each picture manually. What a drag.
Cons
None that I found.

Great program if you need to simplify modifying the extensions on multiple files.

I used it to change files that were given to me with an erroneous extension. Changed ".pdf.pdffile" to ".pdf". I did not have to input anything and it just erased the ".pdffile". Only problem is that I had to use it 100 times (files in different folders downloaded from an FTP site) and had to open it 100 times... Stay open!

Light weight. Does just what it's made to do. Cuts the time of renaming a big handful of extensions down to 5%. Great for converting an html website to php for instance.
Cons
No undo feature (that'd surely be very difficult to pull off though).

Small on screen when opened and it closes automatically when the job is done. Easy to use- open files- drag the file you want to change extension into the little box- type in the desired format than click 'change'.
Cons
None at the moment.
Summary
Changes file with two extensions i.e- filename.avi.html to one extension filename.avi. PLEASE NOTE- it does not CONVERT formats, it only removes an extension. Provided the existing file already exist in the original file than your media player should not have any problem running it.

if a file has 2 extensions, like ".avi.html" , to get rid of ".html" just put a space in the CHANGE TO field
