Record the layout and position of icons and programs on the Desktop.

This tiny application operates as a Shell extension. It records the layout and positions of icons and programs on the Windows Desktop, and permits restoration of the layout. It appears to operate correctly under Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

I wrote this program after severe frustration of having my layout trashed every time I switched screen resolutions. Sometimes other programs will switch screen size and trash your layout as well. This program is an answer to this problem, and I thought other people might find it useful too.

Good tool. Works on Windows 7 STARTER

Pros
Basic but it works for me. Easy to use: right-click on desktop and choose "Save Desktop" or "Restore Desktop" Works on Windows 7 Starter (unlike my beloved Fences)
Cons
No auto-save function: after you change something, you have to remember to save the new icon arrangement Occasionally after a restore, an icon will be slightly out of alignment -- not a major problem, though
Summary
If you use a netbook/laptop with lots of manually arranged icons on the desktop, and you sometimes (but not always) use an external monitor, then this program will save your desktop (and your sanity). That's priceless!
